ok so i know i had another thread about it but it kinda got off track. i have narrowed my oil list to just a few that i might run. opinions please which one would you pick for my truck below? and why please

MOTORCRAFT 5w30

VALVOLINE MAXLIFE 5w30 BLEND

VALVOLINE 5w30

CASTROL GTX 5w30

CASTROL HIGH MILEAGE 5w30

CASTROL GTX BLEND 5/30

EXXON SUPERFLO 5w30 (very cost effective performer)

I am of the opinion that "high mileage" oils are a gimmick and not much is gained from their use. Of the oils that you have listed, I would choose the MC 5w30 (if this is the synthetic blend).

There have been many UOAs on this particular oil and all of the ones that I have read have been very good performance and the price point is also very good (Wally has it fairly cheaply).

Best of luck in your quest!

motorcraft because it works
you can use the hm oils in the summer if you have a leak or the engine burns it hm oils do work!
but the motorcraft oil is great

those modular ford v8 engines run a long time its not uncommon to see those engines with over 300,000 miles on them still running great but there is a problem with a lot of them the spark plugs blow out of the cylinder heads (there is a kit to fix that)

MC is great but Wally doesn't have the jugs in 5w30 so it's not as cheap, (at least where I live). I subscribe to the HM gimmick thing too. They do have a little extra seal conditioner in them if you have a slow leak. Less the HM oils, I would choose the best deal out of the bunch. Superflo is a good choice, all are good choices, go where your heart leads you my friend. It don't make too much of a dif. All will go an easy 5K

That is a shame because you are correct it would not be as cheap in quart bottles versus the jugs.

I agree, I would buy/use conventional/synthetic oil based on price. They are all about the same with reasonable OCI for daily drives.

No SOPUS products either.

I'm running Penn Plat 5W20 right now in my '03 5.4L Mod motor. Runs nice and quiet and clean inside.

Out of the choices listed, I would run Motorcraft, except in the 5W20 flavor.

+1!! Ive worked my 4.6 in the ground, and she does just fine w 5w20

i used to run mc 5/20
it rattled
ive tried a few oils since
right now it has val 5qts 5/20 2qts 10/40
no rattles
when i ran rp 5w30 no rattles
i think the tensioner and lash limiters are wore
it needs 5w30 or 0/30 syn but $...
as always i run an 820s mc filter
and with 135k im sure it will have clearance for a bit heavier oil

technically, i dont think 135k on a ford modular is alot, so i really wonder as to its maintence under the previous owner

man they all rattle
so much so that ford made a video about it
check out flatratetech.com
and everyone knows how lifters and tensioners work
if they are wore your gonna have bleed off and noise

Since your engine isn't mechanically perfect, I vote for Valvoline Maxlife in the viscosity of your choice

I`d go with the Valvoline dino. No reason really except that I`ve just always used it. It`s usually a coin toss between Valvoline and Pennzoil with me.

Thanks for posting - some good information in those videos and I can see a real need to not allow the valvetrain to become varnished/sludged on the Ford Modulars. More power to the synthetics...
