So I have ATT DSL and I checked my service details and it says I have "Access to the nation's largest Wi-Fi network, including Starbucks"; I check the hot spots in the area and they say Starbucks, Macky D's etc and they give a ssid ID which appears to be the same for all the hotspots. I can also "upgrade" to Wifi premier for another $20/month

What exactly is this service? Doesn't Starbucks have free WiFi for everyone? I drive over to the laundramat and there are (3) open Wifi access points in the building including the one in the laundramat which is advertised as open for customers.

I don't get it. Is ATT trying to sell something that some other people are giving away?

I think ATT also have their own hot spots in other locations eg airports.

I have to say though that I used to have ATT DSL and never found a hotspot on my travels.

Starbucks changed their wi-fi policy around the later part of 2010. Out west some of the other hot spots for T use to be Barnes Noble, Hilton, etc.

I actually just ran into this at a Hotel (in Florida) that did not have complementary WiFi. But has ATT WiFi.

Basically you checked the box that said "I am a ATT subscriber" and it allowed you to log in with your email user name and password.

I'm wondering if it works at airports too - if so I might have to ditch Boingo Aero.

Incidentally, my I-phone 4S just joined itself right up, I had to do exactly nothing...
