ATT 2WIRE and DirectTV issue Solved.

My mother in law just got DirectTV and a 2 wire DSL modem. She was having a problem with the DSL light turning red on and off with both her old speedstream and the new 2WIRE modem/router.

I believe I figured out the problem.

The DirectTv box that connects to the phone line was connected to the same DSL filter/phone line jack as the modem. Once I moved the DirectTV box to another phone jack it appears to have fixed the issue.

Strange... even with the DSL filter in place the directTV box shouldn't have cared. It's there to filter out the white noise from the old copper DSL.
he 2Wire is what AT&T U-Verse uses as their brain box. Everything routes through it.

I believe this box is a wireless phone jack.

I think ZZman is describing one of three similar situations:

1. There was a whole-house DSL "splitter" and the phone line of the phone line of the DirecTV box was hooked to the line on DSL port of the "splitter".

2. There was a DSL filter on each device (other than the DSL modem) and the DirecTV box was not installed without its own filter.

3. The filter that has two ports {"DSL" (unfiltered) and "Phone" (filtered)} and the "Data" port was T'ed off with an adapter feeding both the modem and the DirecTV box.

The DirecTV box was probably loading down (shunting out) the DSL signal.

I'm on my fourth ATT 2Wire because of constant disconnecting, bad modem plug, and restarting on its own. All of the modems that came in were "repaired" modem. My third modem was so poorly re-assembled back together, the cover came off and I had to snap it back in place. I've been on the internet for 16 years and this is by far the worst internet customer service, modem, and speed to date.

After my contract expires, I'm leaving ATT. Because of the problems, I will also switch to another cellular phone service when that contract expires. ATT used to be good "back in the day". Now they are garbage.
