No offense, merely stating the ownership experience of an Acura. My favorite problem was the rearview mirror that leaked and melted the gated shifter I hated. The PS pump and blower motor were easy to replace. Cleaning the transmission fluid that emptied itself on the garage floor when the axle seal blew out wasn't fun. The gas pedal that always stuck in the closed position made parking lot maneuvers fun. I'd say that is why I drive GM, but that probably isn't too nice.

None taken, there is a guy in Idaho closing in on 500k on his TSX (tsxtravels.com), and then there are lemons, but I don't hate GM like you say. My buddy has an 04 Avalanche with 200k and runs great.

And I don't hate Hondas. The TLX and new Civic look really nice, the 2013+ Accords are sharp, The HR-V looks great. The teaser shots of the Ridgeline look impressive...can't wait to see it at the Detroit Auto Show in 2 weeks! Everyone is putting out a great car right now, it really comes down to personal preference and what you like.

Oddly enough, I test drove a Passat TDI a few years ago that wouldn't go over 20. I figured it hadn't gone through PDI since it still had the plastic all over everything. My Jeep was in the same condition, so I didn't even bother driving it before I bought it. I'll take fresh off the truck any day.

And I bet you don't imagine that some trashed and abused rental would drive like a new car either...

Funny -- a friend of mine works for Gentex in Michigan, and said that the predominant OTHER manufacturer of self-dimming mirrors installed in Acuras at the time (including our '05 MDX) will fail by leaking its dimming fluid onto the dashboard. He was proud that the Gentex mirrors don't do that, but the Donnelly ones do. I bet your Acura had a Donnelly mirror.

That sounds like quite the mess of cleaning up LCD fluid.

Speaking of Gentex, did they also license their parents out to Tokai Rika, Toyota's primary mirror supplier?

As for the Caddy, I drove a Zipcar Caddy ATS, I liked it better than the laggy Mercedes C250 I drove last but I'm not a fan of its visibility.

I have no idea. I do remember him warning me about the Donnelly in our MDX, though. Fortunately, it still works like a champ.
