His comment about R&D discovering (during testing) some things to help prolong the transmission's life is good, such as use the 'Severe Service' schedule, unless you drive like a Sunday morning lady.

Watched that yesterday. Fortunately, this time, he chose to not use a 14 year old boy's vernacular. Drain and fill every 30k miles or so and your AT will love you long time.
 
Lexus sez it's lifetime fluid. Except I think in Europe there is a service schedule.
The Lexus forum will kill you for suggesting an AT service.
 
The guy's a automotive journalist not some retired Aisin engineer that spent 30+ years designing transmissions so his expertise on the subject is somewhat questionable. He also has an old video on how you should grease your lug nuts which is something that literally every car makers warns not to do. There's also this 30 minute video on "how to anti seize wheel nuts without over-cranking the hi-tensile studs" which is clearly a subject that needs half an hour of your time to expertly explain.
 
Not all transmissions have the same failure modes and not all failure modes are related to the fluid.
A transmission is a complex set of mechanical (and now electronic) elements, getting more complex as they progress from 3/4 speeds to 9/10 speeds. The good news is that these newer models have so much ratio coverage they're almost always running in lockup and not generating much heat. The other good news is that the base oils in the ATFs have improved a lot in the last 15 years.
 
I drain my DSG every 40k as noted in the service schedule. The fluid coming out is light tan color just like the fluid in the bottle. Doesn't appear dirty at all.

I read an article a while back where it said the ATF loses 25% of its efficacy every 15k miles. So, mathematically, at 60k the fluid is shot. I guess by doing a drain and refill every 30k miles you're keeping at least 50% good fluid in the transmission. And to not overlook the importance of the magnet. For what it's worth.

Fluid degredation is not linear and if it was, it would not be 100/75/50/25/0.

It would be 100/75/56/42/31/23/18/13/etc...
 
I bought my F150 new (6 miles). My Ford tech friend said to drain/fill the trans pan fluid every 30K miles. Every 60K miles do the same and replace the filter.
At 24K miles I removed the pan, drilled a 1/2" hole at the lowest point, and Tig welded a 1/4" threadolet onto the pan. I added a brass plug into the threadolet. At 159K miles my trans. shifts as good as new. And, each time I drain the fluid it looks like factory fill.
 
I drained my last Silverado (6-speed) at 50,000 miles-half of which was towing my 5,500 pound-30 foot travel trailer. Visually-it looked, very, very good.

The Dex 6 can take temps all the way up to 275 degrees.
