ATF in gas tank

I overherd a mechanic tell his customer that once every month he puts 300ml of auto transmission fluid in his gas tank before a fill up , to fight carbon build up.........also as a UCL....????

He said you can run it into the throttle body , but through the gas tank was easier....

is there any truth to this????

....the red color and sweet taste are too much to pass up.

No Dexron in the gas won't help and will hurt.

Heck mix up some 2-stroke premix and dump that in!

I think this one relates to the "upper cylinder lubricant" additives of old, like Marvel Mystery Oil.

I do know someone who put a quart of ATF in every other tank of diesel claiming that low-sulfur fuels lacked lubricity for older injection pumps. Of course, a diesel can burn ATF without any problems at all.

Why mix it. Pour in the take before filling, and it will mix just fine.

Or better, use one of the decent fuel additives,
such as AMSOIL PI, Redline SI??, Techron.

Not true. Yes, a diesel engine will run on 'most any flammable liquid, but you'll still get combustion chamber chamber deposits and fouled injector nozzles with too much ATF.

There is NO good reason to add ATF to fuel or crankcase oil. The old-shadetree-mechanic-tales persist.

You might aswell use Lucas UCL. Its really not _that_ much more expensive to use compared to ATF when you buy UCL in a 1 quart bottle. And is a bucketload better...

Speaking of 2 stroke oil, I have a few bottles of old Amosoil 2 stroke 100:1 oil and I was wondering if a few onces per tank would be good for my truck (01 F150) to clean up the fuel system and lube the heads. I heard that it is heavily ester based, and I'm wondering how well it would clean and lubricate. Of course it would be only a little. 3 oz in the tank would give a mixture of about 1100:1.

You could do that in the old days (pre fuel injecter) and it at least would not hurt anything, with fuel injecters you have to be nuts to mix ATF/or/oil in your gasoline.
