ATF for a '00 VW Jetta?

Any suggestions on an inexpensive fluid for a flush for a '00 VW Jetta? The spec fluid is Esso LT71171, I think. I was thinking Maxlife Dex/Merc, but I seem to remember that people have also used Mercon V.

FWIW, I've been running Maxlife in my '00 GTI for a little over a year; no issues.
