I have a 2020 VW Tiguan with the 09P Aisin 8 speed transmission. Is there anybody who knows which ATF is correct for this vehicle? I am seeing a 50/50 split recommending VW G 055 540 A2 and VW G 055 025 A2. I don’t plan to use dealer fluid but would prefer to use something more specific than a multi vehicle option like Maxlife.
Valvoline Extended Protection is more specific than maxlife and is better for longer drains. But It's just ws fluid and maxlife has worked great for many in these. The most specific would be aisin ws which is better imo than toyota ws if you end up going that route.
Thank you. I guess that my bigger concern is that the G 055 540 A2 that 1/2 the sources spec cross references to WS but the G 055 025 A2 that the other 1/2 spec cross references to Type IV. I might just have to call the dealer and ask them to look up the correct part number using my VIN.

Ws can be used in iv applications but not vice versa. If it was mine i'd use Valvoline Extended Protection ATF in it and any WS application. I appreciate that the toyota 10 speed uses WS and not some silly ulv that's limited in selection and local availability.
Update: I gave the dealership a call and they were able to look up the correct fluid via the VIN #. The correct spec is G 055 025 A2 which cross references to Type IV. I will go with Idemitsu Type TLS as that appears to be a Type IV fluid and is currently on clearance at AAP for just over $7/ quart.
The reason I am trying to stay away from the multi vehicle formulations is because I had used Aisin Type 0WS approximately 1 year ago on this transmission and feel like shifts are starting to feel a bit more “clunky” than they should be. I’m wondering if the thinner viscosity of the WS and multi vehicle fluids is contributing to this feel. I will update everyone after I get a few miles on the new fluid. I see a lot of these vehicles out on the road so I hope that this thread will be helpful for others in the future.
I buy single gallons of Redline D6 from FCP and lifetime return them. It's the perfect amount for a drain and fill on my German application Aisin 8-speed.
Update #2: I finally got around to changing the ATF with Idemitsu Type TLS which is the VW G 055 025 A2 and Toyota Type IV equivalent. This replaced the 1 year old Aisin ATF-0WS that I was unhappy with. I did x3 drain and fills. The shifts are much smoother all around and the vehicle drives like new again. Hope this threat can help someone else in the future.
