ATF flush first then filter change or filter first

To do a flush and filter change at the same time. I can't decide which would be better. Flush the ATF with the old filter still in place or drop the pan and change the filter and then do a flush.

If one changed the filter first the remaning old fluid would be pumped through the new filter before being flushed?

If one flushed first all the new fluid is going through the old filter during the flush?

What are your thoughts?

IDK how your particular vehicle works, but with the 05 grand cherokee that I had was set up so that to access the trans filters you had to drop the pan which released several quarts of fluid. IMO it would make better sense to change the filters then flush the system. If in doubt might wanna consult a mechanic

I always wondered about that. It's kind of a chicken or the egg scenario.

If you dump the pan and change the filter and immediately do a cooler line flush almost none of the old fluid in the TC will go through the new filter.
