I have about 175 gallons of Delo Syn ATF and Delo SynGear XDM 75w90.

It's about 160 gallons gear oil and 15 gallons ATF. Pretty much looks like gear oil but a bit darker than normal.

Usable as gear oil or burn it?

It's about $6500 of product.

1) Ha-ha.....We need a dedicated "Frankenbrew Forum" now!

2) Members here are trying to reconcile using a gear oil which has been increased in volume by 8.6% by the addition of ATF.

3) It may have averaged $37.15 per gallon before.

4) Use it as gear oil in open diffs in temperate regions? No telling how ATF would play with LSD clutches.

5) Sell it to a [ insert name of hated car manufacturer here ] dealership.

How'd it get mixed?
Was the guilty party caught or did he fess up?

Wrong drum was put in gear oil tank.

Man what a bummer to waste $6500

OTOH if you toast a diff it could be half that or more, depending upon if you rebuild with new parts or have to source a JY unit.

It would probably work OK as bar and chain oil. I see the OP is in Alaska. Maybe somebody in the mining or forestry industry would have a use for some general purpose lubricant?

Wonder if it would prevent rust under a car in the rust belt? A new side business!
I think it would do better than nothing for sure.

It is a bunch of gallons, it would do a bunch of cars.....send me a royalty check BTW

My side work is in forestry. We don't use much bar oil, maybe 5 gallons a year.

Mostly trimming logs.

The harvester saw lube from the hydraulic system.

Maybe use it as an anti corrosion coating on outdoor equipment. I would not use it in either a AT or gear box. Maybe a gun lube, for any army, for 10 years?

That sucks what a huge $loss
Not exactly huge, but still not great. Roughly a day's profits.

I don't know about "useless". I've worked on diffs that had basically driveway sealer or chocolate milkshake for oil that ran fine.
But whatever their age or condition, those diffs had hypoid differential fluids that were not contaminated by ATF. Both the chemistry and viscosity of those mixed fluids are very different.

Any one fluid mixed with another that reduces its viscosity also reduces the film strength needed to prevent wear for the gearing and bearings, ultimately resulting in failure for both.
