Really? That's the only way I've ever bought it going all the way back to when it was ATF+3.
 
That article is a bit dated- Dexron VI is the new king of shear stability. Time marches on... everything gets better.

I have to laugh at the prior article extolling ATF+3 at the bottom of the page. That stuff was absolute swill with about a 40k mile working life before the friction modifiers were done and torque convertor clutches started shuddering. If ATF+4 had been available from the start of the 41TE transmission in 1989, its reputation would probably be merely "not a great transmission" instead of "sucktacularly wretched."

DEXRON-VI is not that new any longer, 10 years old this month!

You are right about the shear stability though. Results EOT for 40hr KRL shear:

ATF+4 20.2% viscosity loss
DEXRON-VI 6.3% viscosity loss
