ARX vs. LC

RichR,

We have no problems with people expressing the opinions so no worries. Keep in mind the oil nay be becoming darker with LC because LC is also dissolves varnish very well and from what I have read RX is not really meant to remove varnish.

If the oil is getting darker with a product than without, could it be that that product is doing some cleaning and the results are dirty looking oil. A long time ago (60's) when I was a mechanic I know it was common practice for small used car lots to put non-det oil in their cars because when a potential customer looked at dip stick they saw clear new looking engine oil. How could an engine with such pretty looking engine oil have any problems?

Well I figure I might get a little warm posting this.I do not have hard data as in UOA's because I cannot afford that. All I have is sight/sound and the seat of the pants-o-meter.
I have now used both products and my observation shows that the oil stays cleaner longer and the engines seem smoother when using ARX compared to LC.
The latest OCI using Schaffers #700 got dark early @ 3k so I changed the filter and added makup. Now @6.5k the oil is very dark.LC was added at 1k intervals. This is the second LC run.
Using ARX I went to 9k without the oil looking that dirty.I am going to stick with ARX.
I have no axe to grind towards either Odis or Frank.I have talked to both on the phone regarding questions on the use of their products.
Both are very nice and happy to help.
I hope you members don't take offense at me posting my non scientific observations.

I would rather see dirty oil when using a product than clean oil. Dirty oil means a cleaner engine. Stick with the LC and see if it doesn't get better after a few times.

This is true. I wouldn't be concerned with oil that looks dirty - it's doing its job!

And, I'm sure LCD is right, too. LC is much more effective against varnish than ARX, and it is probably removing it.

Be happy!

seems to me that in some engines, leaving the varnish in place would be better. keep the tolerances tightened up.

hey to each his own! what can I say ? I have bought 7 bottles of ARX over the last 3 years and 2 of LC and 3 gallons of FP I use um all I am draining ARX out of the Transmission of my ACCORD right now they BOTH work ..

Deposits cause uneven heating and cooling. Isn't that called thermal stress? I think that getting the insides really clean might help that kind of stuff. Thermal stress can strain gasket joints, valve seats and other stuff, but I guess it's really hard to out what exactly is going on. I rebuilt an engine that had three bad exhaust valves and the oil and water passages around those there valves only, were really crudded up. I don't know which caused which, just an observation.

Making oil lighter isn't the job of LC or AutoRX. Darker might mean it's cleaning better, or nothing at all.

LC helps the oil stand up better and has a mild cleaning effect, autoRX is mainly a cleaner from what I have learned. I don't think either ones effects can be noticed without opening the engine or a UOA.
