Are WIX filters overlooked here?

Plenty of good alternatives but Wix has escaped the drama that has beset Fram and Puro though, at least from what I've seen.

I did a survey on here, using results from the 2012 OCI thread. Wix was well represented in use, especially when you note the heavy use of the Wix made Napa filters.

That would be a very time consuming job. Good job on getting it done though. I wonder how it would vary now with the Purolator issues.

Why is that? I've honestly seen very little difference in their filters vs say Fram or Purolator. I mainly like Fram because its the easiest to get.

Much easier to find FRAM and pur in America. Specially with walmart around, you go grab a jug of oil for 25 bucks and put filter for discounted price on top too while at it.

I am going to give WIX a try when I find deals on amazon, i have resuble filter which cost less to just oil up, or go with pur or fram. either way the price diffrent is too great for me to go for it.

Lt me re-qualify that statement: I didn't like the wix I purchased for my 05 Suzuki Aerio or My 08 Yaris. Didn't fit quite right and it seemed restrictive and it was $$$. I'm Good with Fram AIR filters or stp/champ labs/store brand (formerly Lee Maxifilter )? The Honda gets a genuine Honda which is an oiled(!), spun polyester gauze media.

At my work (a towing company) every truck gets every filter replaced with Wix only, be it oil air or fuel.
Now I know it would be the same with any other quality filter, but we have never had any problem we could blame on a filter, I've used them on both of the Isuzu's in my family (51334) and the start up tick that was present with the pureone (P14459) is gone.

I've recently become a buyer of the microgard and napa proselect filters which are wix made.

the pricing is comparable to purolator.

I usually only use motorcraft or purolator but with the whole purolator issue, i'm gonna why away from them for awhile. I will still use motorcraft but they are a very popular filter at walmart at least and the stock is often depleted of the size i need.

I'm stocked up some filters for awhile now.

I plan to start cutting all the filters i remove and compare the brands side by side.

I use either Wix/NAPA Gold or OEM filters for all my vehicles. I've never had any issues with other brands, I just prefer the build quality of Wix.

I cut one of these open last week just for fun. The ADBV was a dark maroon/ purple color. Anyone know what material it was? I'm assuming nitrile. It seemed very well made nonetheless for a budget filter.

I didn't before, but the build quality seems to have improved, at least compared to the last Wix I bought for the F-150 many, many years back versus the current Wix air filters in the G.

As for their oil filters, as many know here, I've used them extensively for many years, but am not averse to other brands.

The quality is probably model specific with the OE using many sources esp for Asian brand vehicles. I'm sure there are wix air filters for specific apps that are outstanding.

Wix fan here!
I've ran just about every type of filter made over the years and have settled on running Wix. I cut them open and inspect them. Wix is always a well built filter. Never seen a media blow out, pleating nice and even, silicone ADBV.Available at 2 different parts stores within 5 miles from my house (NAPA and Auto Value) Rock Auto also has good deals if you buy them in the master pack cases of 12.

I wouldn't get too excited about that. If the area summation of all the holes in the base plate are equal to or greater than the area of the oil hole in main pipe that the filter screws on to, then all is good.

In that vein, with respect to my previous post, I haven't bought a Wix for my F-150 for a long time. Comparing a current one for that vehicle to what I had before (or at least what I remember before), would be certainly better than comparing a Wix air filter for the G to one for the F-150.

Does that mean you like Wix or not ?

I do, particularly for oil filters. I wasn't impressed with their air filters years ago (for my old LTD or the F-150). However, the Wix air filters for my G were head and shoulders above previous Wix air filters I've seen - I usually use Fram air filters.

So, has Wix air filter quality improved or is it, as ARCO seems to suggest, just certain applications? As for their oil filters, I've used literally hundreds of them and will continue to do so, so I guess that means I like them.
