I think BMW's oil changes are extended to once per year! Rumors are they use Mobil 1 and use a really big oil filter to get em' to once per year.

Really? That surprises me as the current BMW Synthetic 5w30 oil is made by Castrol. So you're saying that BMW has switched suppliers and is now using Mobil 1 synthetic?

AndyH,

You could be right. It was just a rumor I heard they use M1 and nothing other so perhaps your right. My firend has a BMW and told me his oil changes are only once per year. He didn't tell me about the brand of oil cuz in reality it doesn't matter too him which oil is used.

Chefwong,

Didn't want to blow you question outta context. Forgive me.

It would be kind of ironic if BMW still made oil caps that say "BMW recommends Castrol" (which I believe they still do) yet poured M1 under those caps.

Also, the OCI is not just based on duration (once per year), but also on mileage. If you run up miles quickly, the light may come on before your 1 year is up.

Quattro,

Can you imagine what that oil looks like when it's changed? :-)Regardless wether it's conventional or synthetic it must look #@$%!! Persoanlly I'd rather change my oil every 3K and still use synthetic oil.

I change all cars at 1000 and motorcycles at 100. Take a piece of cheesecloth or a coffee pot filter and pour some of that 1000 mile oil in it. You won't believe what you get. Harley Davidson Vtwins have so much debris at 100 miles it looks like they assemble them in a kids sand box. So large tolerance motors like that get OCI at 100/500/1000. I learned that from a HD mechanic who runs engines 150k+ without rebuilding them.

I know a lot of BITOGers would love for you to send them your "used" oil.
