Are front and rear a/c separate systems?

On my 2003 Sequoia front a/c is ice cold but rear has no cooling and I see this refrigerant line going to the rear is broken.






How is this possible? Aren't front and and rear systems connected?

Maybe the valve that serves the rear is closed. Is the front system low on freon?

The break looks to be in the same like that goes to the front evaporator so it would have NO freon.

Someone must have modified it to block off the branch to the rear between the tee and the break. Very common for the lines underneath the vehicle to become leaky then they get converted to front only this way.

the dual systems I've seen and worked on share the compressor and condensor and have seperate evaporators, and cold/hot mixing flaps.

If the front works, yours got converted to front only somehow.

Ok, I see they actually sell block off kits for this very purpose.
