I know some of U remember this stuff from the 1980’s. I worked at my uncle’s Arco/Sunoco station back then and we did a lot of oil changes with this nasty stuff. Oil color didn’t mean jack since It was black as coal when it was brand new! I ran the 20w-50 in my 2.8 v6 Chevy Citation POS all yr long. No idea how it survived past 140k when I sold it. Ah the good old days...

I like the concept. I used it. Its shockproof for the engine. Greater film strength = lower wear? With less fluid friction.

It may come back as the push for energy conserving oils continues.

I remember using it. I loved trying out new stuff. Man was it messy when you got it on you.

The worst of both worlds during that time. Morning sickness had a different meaning back then.

No , let’s keep these nightmares in the history books.

I remember using Arco Graphite in a '73 Catalina 400 v8 and a '78 Nova 250 i6 and it seemed to work fine. The transmissions on those cars went (at around 150,000 miles) before the engines ever had any issues. It was odd pouring in brand new, jet black oil into the engines back in the day.

Agreed some thinks should remain dead and buryed.

I used it in my 1971 WH tractor until they discontinued it ( Of course later than 71)
The tractor still runs great and has never been rebuilt.

I got a case free with a MIR, and used it for a couple of OC's.
It was alright. Saw nothing exceptional about it.

I used several cases of the inky stuff in my Mazda when it was newish, over roughly 100k miles. No problems with it or with the engine, which lasted well. (See below.) It wasn't any more "nasty" than other oil, but was certainly visible when it leaked or spilled. I don't understand the recurring vague negative comments, which never seem to be backed up by specific complaints or technical explanation. I don't know whether it actually reduced fuel consumption or wear for me.

I've never seen it or used it but sounds an awful lot like the LiquiMoly MoS2 of today. I LOVE that stuff and run it in every one of my vehicles.

I had three customers who did there own oil changes every 3-4 thousand miles with filter using Arco graphite. Cars well taken care of. All 3 ended up in my shop over a period of 6-8 months with oil light on. Checked with a gauge and were at 3-5 psi. Dropped the oil pans and found a black residue in an inverted funnel shape from the pan up to the pickup. Was not sludge. Best I can describe it was like that black you get off a trans magnet but more dense. Sorry do not remember the mileage this was back in the late sixties. I do remember one was a 1967 Buick special with the 300 V8. Changed oil to Havoline 10w30 and the issue never returned

I ran it back in the day

But then I got the Blues and switched to Sta-Lube. Lovely light blue coming out of the can. Wish they still had retail motor oil. Liked that color
