Good job I guess idk. Oil is cheap and motors are not but if it works in the long run for you congrats. Just make sure you tell the next person who buys it, if sold to an individual as they may feel differently.

Why is the OP getting so much attention?

He's trolling, at least in part. His original post resembles something like the person who jumps out of an 80 story high rise and yells "So far, so good!" as he flies past the third floor window. It's stupid.

Diesels don't really seem to beat up the oil much. I do maybe 23000 miles a year 90% highway if that matters.

Running ridiculous OCI and gauging the effectiveness of that practice with what are essentially useless UOA? Not exactly stuff I want to see.

And I’m not mad. I’m not sure anyone else is “mad” in this thread either.
UOAs are for trend analysis and determining lubricant life.

What do you think they're for exactly?

So back when I originally joined this website I was super anal retentive about changing my oil, you know changing out 2500 Mile full synthetic oil just because I was worried about wear numbers... Then one day I said to myself why worry so much? And you know what my life's been better ever since! Lol Honestly for the most part as long as you keep something resembling oil in your crank case and change it every now and again you'll be fine. My last OCI with 45K i kind of chickened out, according to the results it could have gone a lot further but who knows maybe next time.

Besides TBN and TAN (if you pay for them), there isn't much else in a cheap UOA that describes how the oil is "holding up" in and of itself. Even a viscosity deviation out of grade may be fuel dilution, not mechanical shear. The OP is running a couple of isolated specrographic analyses to determine if the oil is performing properly, and there is far more to oil performance than what is represented in the UOA. It's the wrong tool and inadequate.

As I noted, besides TBN/TAN a UOA is mainly for seeing how the engine is operating under the specific operating conditions, not the oil. Even then that's also about the engine.

One of the Physics Professors at a Canadian University had a theory that the reason cars rusted was because they were washed. So he bought a new Volvo and never washed it.

And of course it rusted like crazy. So he told everyone what he had done and that his experiment had determined that washing your car did not cause it to rust. Quite the opposite in fact.

I hope the thread starter is prepared to reveal all when the "chickens come home to roost", so to speak.

@lipsmccoy everyone in here calling you a troll and making fun are doing what they accuse you of. Trolling.

I'm on your side. I will say that you need to watch the soot. IMO 1% is too high and is what I would consider the limit.

With bypass filtration I think you could go longer.

Keep an eye on your turbo. I can tell you from experience it’s the week link and if it fails your going to have oil in everything you don’t want oil. Keep on top of air filters too.
