Apple May Have Just Made Your Computer Obsolete

The title said my computer(Dell Vostro 1000 with Window XP) is dead because Apple has a new OS named Sierra.

But in the body it said "Tucked into the pile of flashy features is showing the world this week at its WWDC event comes the news that a massive number of Macs are effectively on death row.

The Sierra version of MacOS, Apple’s laptop and desktop operating system, makes its debut in the fall, but will not support many of the computers the company sold in 2007, 2008, and 2009."

I was worry for few seconds. The Macs are dead, not the laptop(s) with Window XP.

That's how they force you to buy a new computer because they know you can't update your browser unless you have a compatible OS for the new browser. It wouldn't be so bad if they were charging the same price as Dell does for their computers, but Mac still charges about $3000 for a 15 inch laptop.

That's how they force you to buy a new computer because they know you can't update your browser unless you have a compatible OS for the new browser. It wouldn't be so bad if they were charging the same price as Dell does for their computers, but Mac still charges about $3000 for a 15 inch laptop.

I don't remember exactly how much I paid for my Dell Vostro in early '00, probably around $300-500.

Noway I will pay more than $500 for a replacement, be it laptop or notebook or other portable device.

Apple is just clearing out the rif-raff. They'll tell you what you like and need. All you have to do is keep up every time they upgrade. They'll let you know how much it will cost. You wouldn't want to be left behind, would you?

Apple products really are not worth it. They release old tech as new, you could go out and buy their "professional" desktop for $4,000 and it could be best in every possible category by a custom built PC at 1/3 the price.

A 2007 PC is heavily outdated they are not meant to last forever.

It is and yes it is worth it. 1000%.

Yes you can "build it yourself cheaper" but that's not the market they are going for. Their stuff is pretty price competitive with the higher end PC's and the performance is about the same.

You do realize Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc all make $3k+ laptops right? The low end Mac is quite capable. Typing this on my "travel computer", a 11" Macbook Air. Fantastic machine and about the size of a tablet with none of the drawbacks of any tablet OS.

XP's been dead for about a year now. MS Ended support in 2014. Your old Mac will work just like your old Windows XP machine. Just don't expect any updates from the vendor.

Totally fine and smart. The new features want more processing power. They simply will maintain and make quite stable the latest release of OS that runs on old machines and not waste effort trying to make new Os features work on slow hardware.

the use case of majority of folks is a web browser which will stay modern, current and useful whatever the OS. Software is mostly dead.

That is the confusing point for folks. They buy low end hardware and get disappointed of issues on Windows and deem it junk. If they simply bought decent hardware with Windows to start life is fine.

I have been a happy Windows user for over 15 years using thinkpads.

I've used every version of Windows from 3.0 to 10 on high and low end hardware. It is junk and has been junk for a long time now.

I've admin'ed Windows in a corporate environment from NT 4.0 to Server 2008. It is junk there too.

It wasn't until I gained experience with Linux and OS X that I realized what a pile of garbage Windows is.

That's a very well-researched argument you have there. But hey, we get it, you don't like Apple computers, so you'll only focus on facts that support your opinion.

Apple has computers as low as $499 (Mini). They have laptops from $899 (Air). Yes, they have $3000 computers, but so does every PC manufacturer out there.

Microsoft does the same thing: they stop supporting old hardware. It has been like this pretty much as long as there have been computers.

(for the record, I don't own a Mac)
