Wife doesn't let you do a simple hobby that you enjoy doing that isn't doing drugs or something ridiculous?

I'd tell her where she can stick it.

In 10years.....more and more stressful life/jobs...wich can evolve into OCD... Such a person wants to have EVERYTHING under control (at least at home)...

You become dumber over time.
Away for work, you will be expected to diagnose the most frantic and hysteric phonecalls over the phone where your sphere of influence is zero.
But at home would not be able to assemble and cook a grilled cheese sandwich.

I support the recommendation to seek professional help

No,
She thinks its more complicated than what it is. Maybe,
Doubt it.

Funny thing is that I performed intermediate oil changes on my diesel but I never bothered to mention it. Last night I mentioned at dinner that I picked up a socket at SEARS and ordered a torque wrench.

Prior to getting married I did my own changes all the time if I could get under the vehicle. It wasn't a BFD.

That's the thing. I don't have a dipstick. I did on my diesel when I performed intermediate changes which, at the time, I never thought to mention to her.

Thank god I hadn't ordered the QuickJack.

This is exactly the problem these days. If your wife didn't see her dad wrenching on vehicles, she doesn't want you doing it. She also figures if you forget to put the toilet seat down, you'll forget to screw the oil plug back in. You have to tell her there are different levels of consciousness involved here.

Married over 15 yrs not 10. Sorry folks.
But ya she's OCD. Always has been.

The answer to the other posters... Well other than my diesel I was leasing so maintenance wasn't a thing and none of the cars turned out to be keepers.

My wife occasionally moans about me taking time to do the regular maintenance on our, and our daughter's vehicles, but I simply reply "would you rather I just let things go so you could end up stranded on the side of the road?....silence...

Are you a two car household or one car? That makes a difference, if its a shared car tread carefully, if its your car make some boundaries. You can start with windshield wipers and detailing and work your way up? My wife is ocd about certain thing within her sphere of influence and that ive had to learn to live with.

Tough...

Do more (together) on relaxiation...on weekends go on relaxing short trips...spa...grill...whatever works for both of you...

If this doesnt work....then

The original post rings of incompleteness. There's something, maybe more than one thing, which has been left out.

Is the objection seasonal? It is getting colder now.
Does the OP retreat under the car and stay there talking to himself?
Does the OP just take too long?
Is the OP messy?
Is there a husband nearby who makes lots more money than the OP and who brags about having his oil changed?
Has their cleric included some stupid oil changing joke in his sermon, thus planting an anti oil change seed?

OR would wifey like it if hubby disappeared to a distant garage once in a while so the shopping cart boy at the local supermarket can pop over....if you know what I mean...?
To the OP: See if she produces discount coupons for a far-away garage.

Some of the responses on here are baffling to me. I'm a grown man, I'll do anything I please. She doesn't like it, she can go on merry way.

My wife would know better than to even try to tell me this.

Find them in her purse and take them back my friend.

ROFL !!!

Thanks for letting me vent gents. It was cathartic.

Now we should discuss more important topics like whether or not subscription services are going to be the big money makers that the OE's hope they will be.
