Anything Special About Quaker State Winter Oil ?

I changed my minivan's oil in January, temps were dropping fairly cool. I decided to try Quaker State's Winter Oil as it was on sale at our local Crappy Tire stores. I have to say that the van does start easier and runs nicer when cold with this oil, I was using Castrol 5w30 oil in the last OCI. But I really like the way the QS Winter oil is working this winter. I believe it's advertised as a semi-synthetic blend, I wonder if they are using more synthetic oil than other typical blends to give it added benefits in winter temps. Is there anything else they could do with the oil to make it work better in cold temps which conventional oils don't get ?. I kinda thought it was marketing hype but it seems to be working very smoothly with less engine noise at all times. Oil consumption is also zero so far to date, and the oil appears cleaner on the dipstick as compared to the Castrol.

BlazerT: You need to get a grip on life. You may not like the STUPID CRAPPY TIRE COMMERCIALS, but it helps them sell oil. AND the Quaker State Winter Oil does everyting it says it will do. Maybe you should try some.

This oil has some impressive numbers on the product data sheet - VI index of 207 (stays thin as the temperature drops) & a cold crank rating of 3750 cP @ -35C.

The MSDS indicates a healthy percentage of GRP III base oil. With pour point depressants, the viscosity is comparable to most 0w30 synthetics.

Hey Johnny - Why not give BlazerLT a chance to appear in the Crappy Tire QS commercial for next season?

Sounds like a nice oil actually. Right now at CT, it's on sale for $2.49 a quart. Hmm, 10 bucks for 4 quarts of oil with viscosity comparable to a 0w30, sounds like a deal to me.

I would assume the price might get better as spring approaches , that is a great price in new brunswick, I paid a good bit more than that when it was on sale here. With those specs it might even be a fine summer oil , but my minivan prefers 10w30 in summer temps according to the manual.

From what I can tell this is a pretty good product, marketing hype or not, its a good bargain without having to go fully synthetic.

I now have 24 quarts of the stuff. That should do for three cars next fall-spring. It's funny that they have the regular Quaker State oil for maybe $2.69/qt, while you can get this amazing stuff for less. The Quaker StateW 10w30 is very close to a 5w30.
