In Santa Barbara the old Pep Boys is now a 99cent store.
So business as usual?
It was a big deal in Santa Barbara because the Pep Boys was on State St and people though having a 99cent store there would "cheapen" downtown. For the past few years there have been a ton of empty spaces on State St so any business staying there is a good thing. So business as usual?
No but the commercial side is now Auto plus. One thing to learn is how many Pep Boys are closing. I must eyeball the one nearby in Hackensack.
Maybe it'll be New Jersey's first O'Reilley's.
Three years ago I read that Pep Boys was spinning off their service operation. How any former PB shop would be named was a point of contention.
Anybody seen any renamed Pep Boys service bays?
I just discovered that the Pep Boys near my house, the one I've gone to for detailing products now and then, closed in Feb. '20. No "Retail Store Closed -- Service Only" signs up. You walk in and find the store is empty. In my area the service dept has a different owner than the retail. Maybe the owner will rent out that store to another busisness? More likely it will sit empty and vandalized like the empty walmarts and Lowes buildings do.
There is one in Manassas and a few others around Northern VA.I’ve always wanted to go to a Pep Boys we don’t have any here in Virginia and I have no idea where the closest one is. Had no idea they were in parts and service I thought it was just parts.
Oh ok thanks for the info. I haven’t been up that way in a long time. Might be worth making a trip up there for. I’ll be going to Dulles soon too because my family wants to go to Sears again so we are probably going to the Dulles one. There is one in Manassas and a few others around Northern VA.

Why am I picturing this?
Their parts aren't that cheap. Only time they had good sales was during Black Friday but not even that good lately but then again most sales aren't that good as they used to be on Black Friday anymore. Their service prices are on the high side, maybe ok if you need cheap tires, but probably the same at Walmart or cheaper.I’ve always wanted to go to a Pep Boys we don’t have any here in Virginia and I have no idea where the closest one is. x2.One thing I liked about Pep Boys is the broader array of automotive accessories and auto detail products compared to other parts stores. That selection shrunk a little over the years, but before the internet took over, they were the place to go.
