Anything better than a CX5 out there, yet?

I'd snag used. Any euro vehicle I'd buy 1-2 years preowned. No way im taking the euro hit. It's not a Lexus. The value bombs.

The GLA35 would be perfect. Sadly it's a new model.

No interest in a 2019 GLA 45? Low mileage examples are in the $45K target. They are absolute performance beasts for the money.

Nothing. Best.Car.Ever.

Why do all the rest even bother trying?
I rode in the back of my BILS around Boston, and it wasn't a happy experience. Maybe better drive at the helm.
His was the NA motor.
And does anyone go 0-60 as fast as they can? I used to all the time if I was in front during my work commute. NOBODY in 20 miles of me seems to ove with any briskness; They all drive like slugs. Can't even seem to get five cars through a Green light.

After all this grump talk, I will actually try to get my wife to look at the CX30 as a Subaru Crosstrek alternative.
Though the Mazda "too slick" style likely will not pass her outdoorsy Bohemian litmus test.

I understand the 70K mile trade in; here the vehicle is still bringing very good money used, but when over 100K miles that will drop precipitously. I am surprised the wife's Crosstrek may be worth 12-13K as a trade at 90Kmiles.

Its near 400hp...
The NA cx5 is a slug. Turbo and 2019+ suspension is much improved.
That's too much mojo for a 2 litre street engine. And I though my NA 2 litre at 166hp was over built for street use.
with the 12:1 compression, I have to mix in some premium to get the thing to be happy. I though the engine noise was the 5W20 grade oil when it got hot - but it was the regular gas with the factory tune. Ford even mentions Knocking in the owners manual
and the need for premium fuel to make the rated HP and torque. On an ECOsport. Silly. You would think Focus RS.
I would think it would just over-fuel and add EGR then pull timing as needed. Guess not.

I considered the CX-5 before purchasing the Venza last month. The CX-5 has a lot going for it and is priced more attractively for similar features. I opted for the Toyota hybrid system and the MPGs instead of the better drivability of the Mazda.
Even with the most optimistically bullish fuel prices, it will be a looooong time to break even on the fuel savings vs added cost of hybrid system.
The Mazda is a better drivers car, but l was enamored with the technology of the Toyota hybrid system and eCVT and took the plunge. The hybrid system works far better than l anticipated.
l understand why the CX-5 is a BiTOG favorite and why the Venza is not as popular with the BiTOG crowd, but l am happy with it.

Wait until Mazda starts using the Toyota hybrid system in their vehicles. The CX50 might be the first.

45 for an A class? ! I would assume the AMG doesnt get the Nissan engine. Where is the value?
There's no value in a new Mercedes. It only has good value once depreciation kicks in. That's probably in the 4-6 year range when the warranty is almost up and it's 1/4 to 1/3 the price of new but has 2-3x life left in it. That's when they have more options than the equivalent Japanese models, list price was higher and depreciation was greater.

I figured I'd update this thread. I am scheduled for delivery of my RAV4 Prime XSE later this month (although, they say it well could get pushed back into early October if we are being realistic...)

Why the Prime XSE?

-I was working 5x per week, 85mi round trip when I made this move. I've since changed schedules, but still...gas prices are a thing, and it will save me money long term, big time. I was burning $380/mo in fuel in my CX5! I've owned some screamers before, my 505hp Z06 the most beast of them, and in time, even that can get kindof dull and you just feel the bleed....

-The way car values are, now, they basically offered to pay my CX5 off, which I traded into pretty upside down (about 5K so, in 2019) on a 72mo note. Wohooo! Not a bad financial move...

-R4P will hold insane value. If my life changes 2 months from now, I can flip it for what I paid and then some. It will hold value years from now, too, and should be pretty reliable.

-The 0-60 and instant thrust of electric propulsion is considerable. It's actually faster in the quarter than many performance-focused vehicles, and its 30-50 time is identical to the 3.0L Supra...cheap fun, lol!

Anyway, just going through some old threads and wrapping them up.

Keep us updated on the RAV4 Prime… it’s the first Toyota that has actually caught my attention lol. If I can cram 3 ever growing boys into it along with my wife and I, it would be the perfect car for my wife.

Otherwise it’s a Pacifica Hybrid, and I’m not entirely sure how I feel about a 1st gen $45,000+ Chrysler hybrid minivan with a CVT and FWD only.

Congrats!

In many ways it is similar to the BMW X5 45e PHEV I have been looking at (that my wife hates). You are right, the electric part makes them feel quite peppy!

What are her objections?

My main objection is that the electric range is fairly short, and after that, the gasoline engine actually delivers worse fuel economy than the pure gasoline version.
It's too "quiet" and switching it to gas mode requires a button press.

The ~45km electric range is fine for what we'd use it for, but yeah, it's not as good as some other PHEV's. It's a reasonably large SUV though.

These RAV4 Primes seem pretty good. If we smashed the Outback tomorrow they would be first on the list of test drives.
