Anything better than a CX5 out there, yet?

You should take an X3 for a test drive.

We have E90 BMW and Mazda 6. The Mazda is comfortable and has more room in the back seat, but the BMW is worlds better in driving.

So far in 10 years of ownership, the BMW has required belt tensioner, oil filter housing gasket, two sets of tires, and one battery cable recall. I did the non-recall work myself in short time, tires from Costco, and the dealer did the recall. Along with a trip through the machine wash that took a while to correct. Ugh.
I'll drive an M40i (Base X3 isn't worth it to me.) if I get the chance.

Probably bcs. it is BMW. But, now that you told us how your car is best thing after sliced bread (again), can you tell us why you asked the question in the first place?
Its' a 328i. Of course it's cheap. Let's move on...

I am seeing if there is something out there that I overlooked that would be an upgrade, within the parameters specified in my OP. Not to hear about your ratty 10 year old "It's a BMW..." and how cheap you got it.

Typically they are. I can walk in and get my vehicle serviced/new tires/an alignment/whatever while waiting. That's mostly what goes on there, just routine PM. I've seen some older Mazda's like the RX8's and some heavily used Miata's in for more extensive stuff though, but it's usually just 1 or 2 cars at any given time getting more than just basic same-morning stuff done. That's part of why I like Mazda. No service wait times to get an appointment.
When customer knows exactly what is going on in the service department, it is not a good thing!

I used to work in quality control for whirlpool. I got the inside scoop of alot of the manufacturers. Samsung's quality is a joke.Stay with Whirlpool, Kenmore,Maytag and your life will be easier. I'm not saying everything is perfect,as in all manufacturing there are defective units. But Samsung is not quality once you plug them in 😉
Obviously we all have our own experiences. In our last house, we bought all new appliances when we moved in: Kenmore stove and Samsung fridge, washer, and dryer. In 5 years time, only the Kenmore needed repairs.

So basically, this is one of those monthly threads where you seeking confirmation bias so you feel better with what is in your garage.

When service department hides things from customer, is when it's not a good thing. It's pretty easy to see an RX8 with the engine bay empty and put 2 and 2 together, as well as notice that when you drop your car off, all the cars in the bay have been moved out and gone or are awaiting pickup when you return from the gym or wherever, that were there that morning.

Or to replace what's in my garage. Seems that's not likely though, based on what I'm hearing. It could also be the thread where we talk about old BMW's and how cheap they can be bought, or whatever, apparently.

Are the Mazda service departments empty?

That depends on location. Near me there are two Mazda dealerships, both under the same owner. Mazda is very popular around here. The service dept I use seems quite busy. Despite that, I have no problems getting appointments with very little wait time in the instances where I have used them.

I only have almost 24k on mine, but it has not been back to the service department for anything.

Yes, I meant to add, drive an X3 with at least the sport package instead of the regular one. M40i will be a good one, for sure.

Everyone has different tastes and needs from their cars. I don't fault you at all for liking the Mazda. The 2.5 turbo and 6 speed auto are a pretty good combo and reliable. In the Mazda 6, I find the infotainment system awkward to use sometimes (it's not my daily driver, so I get out of practice), and the satellite radio will lose its channels upon start up about once per week. The dealer upgrades the firmware and sends it out, but its never been fixed.

The X3 probably handles more neutral, but I mostly want more acceleration, and it has less. Interior I'm not super stuck on, and the Mazda's is adequate. Acceleration is my big drive to look around, honestly. I miss having a fast vehicle.

BMW says the X3 M40i has 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds. That's pretty good.

This is very nice, saw one tonight.
