for you guys that use Mobil 1 ATF, do you guys like it? could you tell a difference in using it? i have been debating on swiching from maxlife dex-merc to Mobil 1 ATF.. the only way i am going to do it is over time with 15k mile drain and fills and except for using maxlife i was going to start using Mobil 1 ATF.. what do you guys think?? this is just something i have been thinkin about and i havent made my mind up. m1 is double the price of maxlife

IMO, I'd stay with Maxlife. I used to be a die hard Mobil 1 fan, but have slowly shy'ed away from Mobil 1 oil since joining this community. I do use the Mobil 1 transmission fluid in my PS units though. Steering seems smoother with it in there than the OEM fill.

the only issue with M1 that i have is with the motor oil. we have no proof as far as atf or diff oils whether its good or not...

I've been using Mobil 1 ATF in my 87 Grand National since about 1989 exclusively. I think I may have one of the few 3.8turbo transmissions that have not failed even under some hard use occasionally. I also use it in my other cars (except my 06 which requires Dexron 6) and I also use it in 2 trucks' transfer cases that call for Dex 3 fluid. So, yeah, Ive gotten good use with Mobil 1 ATF.

Mobil 1 ATF is excellent if you can afford it.

My rec is based on that I've used it in multiple 'delivery' type vehicles that would boil/smoke normal mineral ATF, even with an additional ATF cooler. M1 eliminated the ATF smoking and short transmission life. Ita an excellent power steering fluid fluid.
Mobil 1 ATF, as well as any full synthetic, also makes a good bandaid for some notoriously weak(hot) dex/merc transmissions, especially if additional full flow filters and bigger ATF coolers isn't an option.

For 15k drain/refills, definitely consider the M1.
Depending on driving style and transmission, 15k partial drain/refills is nothing special and might not be enough. So, a full synthetic, IMO, would be better for those intervals.

yeah all i am going to do is to replace my 15k drain and fill with M1 instead of maxlife.. i like maxlife dont get me wrong but i drive 30k miles a year or more so my transmission is going all out. plus i pull a 21 ft bass boat in the summer.. it has 97k miles on her now and i really want to drive to 300k and thats the only 2 reasons why i want to switch to a syn but again it will be over time with 10-15k mile intervals..

would it be ok to mix the maxlife and the M1 since i will be draining and filling? the toyota place told me not to flush at all. they quit doing it

mikeg5,

I have been using Mobil 1 ATF in my Tundra and my sons Tacoma. Both shift really smooth. Previous was a Schaeffers product and that worked really well also. I like to do a complete drain and refill on my truck with 15 quarts every 50k miles.
I have 153k on my truck now and tow a heavy trailer. I think M1 is good stuff and easily available at your local autoparts store.

around here the yota places tell me not to flush but to just drain and fill.. they all quit doing flushes, i asked why he said they were having issues with comebacks complainnig blah blah.. and that it wasnt necassary with most yotas.

Its perfectly OK to mix the ATFs. So, at your next and any future D/R's, use the M1.

30k a year=2 drain/refills a year. Must be lots of highway driving so interval is very reasonable.

Yep mikeg5, price is location dependent. I usually drive x-country every 9 months or so. I've seen it as low as $4 and as high as $10 a quart. $6-8 is reasonable. Above $8 and I'd seriously consider the 'online' Amsoil/Redline or other boutique fluids.

Flushing is easy and OK. I've NEVER seen comebacks with a flush that was done correctly. Problem is that many machines, brands, or services,--all come with marketing bull, using flush cleaning chemicals, treatments, and technician incompetence.
Many shops don't want the flush hassle ESPECIALLY if there is a drainplug and dipstick. Either flush every 30k or do 2-3 drain/refills during that same 30k.

I used M1 synthetic in my dad's Lexus ES300 automatic transmission, and he was pleased with the result. I also put it in the separate differential and power steering, both which required Dexron III ATF, and it worked extremely well.

If Dexron III or Mercon V is required by something you drive, Mobil 1 synthetic ATF will work extremely well in there. At my local Wal Mart, it costs about $6 per quart.

yeah i am stuck on either just doing drain and fills every 10-15k miles with M1 or this route bc i think i may still have original fluid in there bc all i have done is drain and fills since 52k miles. so about 3-4 D&F's (97k miles now).. drain the pan (4qts), fill the pan with M1, pull the cooler line and drain 1qt or 2qts at a time and refilling with the amount drained until i get good looking fluid coming out.. what do you guys think. i dont have transmission issues at all now, the fluid looks good and red not dark. what would you guys do?

Do a couple of drain and refills (3-4 with maybe 100 miles in between) with Mobil 1 ATF. This will get more of a synthetic concentration in there. Than do a drain and refill every 15k with M1.

I have used in import's and domestic's calling for Dex II and III for year's and like it alot. ALl Toyota's with AUtomatic's get it in my family!

i am tempted to switch only bc i plan on keeping this thing for a long time and like i said before i drive 30k plus a year. nothing wrong with maxlife at all believe me
