I had to replace the engine in my wife's Saturn a couple weeks ago. The Fram CH8006 filter broke in half when I removed it to check for bearing particles. I sent them an e mail from some site of theirs asking them if they would look at the filter, but never received an answer. I tried to find the link again, but can't.

This will be interesting.

This could potentially be the first DOCUMENTED case on these boards of a Fram-induced engine failure.

Good luck trying to get Fram to admit to anything, but by all means, keep us posted.

I don't see it. He said, "The Fram CH8006 filter broke in half when I removed it to check for bearing particles."
How does that equate to the filter causing engine failure?

Its not the filters fault. The engine malfunctioned and exceeded its pressure limits which lead to the premature destruction of this filter. Sorry we cant help you.

I've never ever seen an oil filter break like this. I'm not saying the filter CAUSED the failure, I would like them to tell me why it broke. This is only an element. The housing is part of the engine. This was not a housing that ruptured from excessive oil pressure. Actually, it didn't break until I attempted to remove it from the engine. I removed the housing cover, reaced up to remove the element and only half came out.

Thanks - I'm not sure why the rocks were lobbed in your general direction - picts will be great. Can you better describe the filter falling apart. Are you saying like 1/2 the cartridge stuck to the engine filter mount and the media and core broke in your hand?

By the way, it's CH8806. I saw the box out in the garage. Yes, Pablo, that's exactly what happened. I removed the cover and the back of the filter was stuck to the engine. When I pulled it out, and not very hard, mind you, the filter broke right in half. The back half had to be broken into peices to remove it. I'm more curious than anything because I've been changing the oil on this car since it was brand new and never saw this happen. The only time I saw filters crumble in the past was when I was servicing a Cat D346 and I guess no one had changed the fuel filters in a few years. I opened the housing and when I attempted to remove the elements, they just crumbled. The difference here is that these were fuel filters left soaking in fuel for who knows how long and my wife's oil filter was in the car for about 3000 miles. BIG difference in my eyes.

Here's another Fram corporation number, 1800-628-7968, Good Luck!

How 'bout we go with a Champ Labs product next time
