I am interested in a VOA on this oil, but maybe not $30 interested. I don't see one in the VOA section.

Anyone want to go in on this? We would need 2, 3, or 6 participants for $15, $10, or $5 share respectively.

Thanks!

I was gonna make a post about it, but when you have guys here with 10,000 posts, it makes my "achievement" look very minuscule at best...

BTW, Pennzoil High-Mileage?
You mean Long-Life?

Dang it! I stand corrected. Yes, the Long Life Pennz. See???? been so cold that I haven't been out to check on my boat and I've lost touch with reality....

I have an unopened 4qt jug of merc 25w40. Or I think I still have it, I don't remember if I used it to winterize the bayliner last fall. If I didn't, then I don't mind sending in a sample for a VOA. Like was said though, I don't mind contributing $5 or $10, but anymore than that isn't worth it for me. If you guys are willing to share the cost, let me know. I will check and see if I still have the oil. At worst, we could go with a sample that was run in an already warm engine for 30 minutes at fast idle then shut down.

Someone sent me a link for a $10 OA. I think I will do that in the spring on the winter stored oil. I also have a partial quart of Merc 25W40 to compare it to. $20 and it will at least tell me what this oil is and answer questions about when to change oil -- spring or fall.

Grease, someone on the Crownline Forum spoke to a Merc rep and was told the 25W40 is a blend of 2 straight weight oils with no improvers added.
We just picked up a used Crownline with the 454 Mag MPI motor in it.After talking with a marine performance engine builder,I decided on the Amsoil Marine/Diesel oil. I ran straight 40wt in my 5.7 for the last 2 years but wanted to try a synthetic in this engine.

I ordered 4 kits for the $12 oil analysis (including TBN). They should be here in two days. I will promptly turn around the VOA for the Merc 25W40. We can compare that to the one UOA of the oil on this site. I will also drain out a sample in a month to put some numbers to the concern about changing oil in the fall or spring. I will then run this oil for about 20 or 30 hours and do a UOA. Next will be to drain the Merc oil and put in either Delvac 1, M1 SUV, or Amsoil and do a 20 or 30 hour run with UOA. I want to know for sure what is best for my particular engine and usage style (lots of WOT

Grease, just saw my first ad for Mercs new Synthetic Blend Mercruiser and 4-Stroke Outboard oils in the April edition of Boating. Both are 25W-40.They say they are both FC-W certified.
Yaers of "not recommending" synthetics until they have one with their name on it.Hmmmmmmmmm

I called Mercruiser consumer line on Friday and the tech didn't know about it. I have looked on the Merc site and don't see anything.

BTW, I received my oil kits and am sending out the VOA on the Merc 25W40 on Monday.
