How do you wash one?

Not in your home machine, that's for sure, although in a top loader it might not be too terrible, but no way in a frontloader. I'd go break a laundrymats machine before I even thought about it at home. Or drag it out in the driveway and pressure wash it in the summer time.

What exactly do they use to make them "weighted"?

In the ones my wife has, it's glass beads. Not BB sized, but not sand sized either, somewhere in between those two. If you get a hole in one it goes everywhere.
