I’m looking at getting a new HD truck and have been eyeballing the new 7.3 Ford. I recently sold my 2015 Ram with the Cummins and don’t want to get into another diesel for reliability , maintenance and upfront cost because I don’t really need it I don’t think. Will be towing around 13k a few times every few months will be the heaviest thing that I’ll be hauling. Mostly smaller car trailers with atvs or firewood in a dump trailer. Looking specifically at a F350 XLT with 4:30 gears. If you guys have one let me know how you like it.

Not a direct answer to your question- but I have a 2002 F350 with the gasser V10 and 4.3 rear end. Very happy with it and paid less than half of what I likely what of paid for the same truck with the 7.3.. It is not a daily driver, only used for hauling my trailers.

Sorry, I thought you were asking about the 7.3 diesel that was in the Super Dutys through 2003. My bad. Have heard awesome things about the 7.3 gasser Ford introduced this year in the Super Dutys.

That is the truck to buy if you dont want diesel.

GON hes talking about the new 7.3 gas engine, you I'd imagine are talking about the 7.3 diesel?

edit: ah GON edited after my post.

We have had several trucks at work with the V-10 and they have done great and get abused every day and never seen a problem with one other than one they ran 5 quarts low of oil.

I had a 97 7.3 power stroke and wish I’d have never sold it.

That’s what I’ve been researching and everyone has been saying but I haven’t talked to anyone that actually has one and has used it.

Drive bye ford dealer they are always sitting at service dept! Township has 2 both broke down before 10k.
From my contacts within Ford service departments.....The Job 1's have their fair share of issues. I think the new 10 speed might be a dud?.....Same goes for the GM 10 speed.

The 6 speed 6R140 & Allison 1000 are "were" proven units....They just needed more powerful gasoline engines to power them.

The Chevy is defiantly one of the ugliest trucks ever made in my opinion.

More or less all of the trucks are ugly these days, IMO.

Ram is the best, and goes down from there IMO.

Im not someone who is set on having an uber-fancy interior. Its a car, its going to get baked... But Ive never been thrilled with Ford interiors, personally.

After my last Ram I wasn’t impressed I had a 2012 and 2015 one with the hemi and one with the Cummins. The Cummins was down in around 2500 miles with turbo problems , shifter breaking off , numerous recalls , and a few other problems that were minor but they were problems. The Hemi was having electrical problems within 30k miles due to the throttle by wire and had the truck in the shop 3 times due to that. One time the throttle would only work about 20% even if you mashed it to the floor and I had to drive it around 800 miles home. Unless they have stepped it up a lot for 2021 I’ll not own another. I’m not big on fancy interiors either both of my Rams were tradesman model and about as base as you can get.

Clinebarger when you start getting smart on these, do share. I’ve got the 10R80 in our 2018 and it has some teething issues. Leaving third is a roll of the dice, whether it’s looking for 4th or skipping to 5th. i suspect it’s something sticking in the VB, as sometimes.... (or often), it just can’t land on the next gear as soon as it should, and when it does and catches up, it slaps hard (whether gentle acceleration or under load, whether in “eco” mode or pulling a trailer in “tow”). i *think* it does a little better when driven hard, perhaps when the pressures are up. On occasion when driven gently it has given up and rev’ed free; that is No Fun in traffic. (Yes, I specifically had that documented on my service ticket so the complaint during warranty is documented.) the dealer says, “oh yes. We get a lot of complaints about this transmission. ford says the rough shift is normal for the transmission.” And I like the dealer I’m going to, I’m not meaning anything against them.

the dealer flashed mine and the flash is a bandaid. They softened all the shifts, I think to mask it, but now all of the gears are “mushy” instead of the quick, positive feel it had before. Start off from the light, and you can look forward to 9 mushy transitions to 10th, instead of what once was 9 quickly orchestrated blips to the next gear, quick and seamless. The upshift hiccup from 3rd is still there but less pronounced. it did Not do this new. It shifted very nicely when it was new, quick and precise.
