Anyone heard of this...bladeyourride?

the referal link doesnt work yet, my friend just ordered one and I tried to get a referal from it. they also have a college scholorship program on the bladeyourride site. maybe I can go back to school and learn more about exhaust systems...lol

whoever said they wanted to see test results froma US lab didnt look through the website very hard...I just found this...http://www.bladeyourride.com/Blade-511-Results.html
they have the actual results showing the lab address and telephone number...I also looked on the EPA website posted here and they have this lab listed on the EPA website
http://www.epa.gov/otaq/consumer/lablist.pdf
research goes a long way

Some years ago when I was living and breathing motorcycles, I believe I saw a muffler design that utilized a valve not unlike an intake/exhaust valve, which metered the exhaust gas under adjustable spring pressure. I'm not sure of the muffler's core design, but I bet it was a straight perforated tube w/glass-packing. Still seems interesting to me, though I would want to be able to get better ventilation of the system when not in use so as to not trap any moisture - corrosion control. I'm still thinking of the days of aluminized steel pipe, not stainless, etc.

Take care.

Forgot to add...for adjustable mufflers - supertrapp is one such design that I remember from motorcycling and have seen on a few cars in years past.

Surfstar, got a question for you. If the EPA says >=5% is a statistically significant difference from baseline, what are your qualifications to say the blade results which are for the most part way over that are not??

No one said anything about improving performance Papa Bear, only reducing emissions and fuel consumption in that order. Start thinking for a moment about what the rear O2 sensor does with slightly dirtier exhaust due to the backpressure (hint: rear O2 will read that as rich and send a lean command)and you may realize it's possible to affect both emissions and fuel consumption. If you don't believe me, ask an ASE emissions Tech. I did!

One more question. What would the effect on emissions and fuel consumption be during cold start and operation if you could speed the time the cat takes to reach light off and maintain optimal temp?

Hey Matt, read the website and then talk to someone who knows about vehicle exhaust like an ASE mechanic. you might learn something.

kowledge is power

Does the fun ever end? This kind of enlightenment is just so rich and dripping with insight. I send out a big thanks to joseph and tandkob! I hope this thread goes on forever. Who could ever have dreamed of this kind of immediate manufacturer feedback and discourse? Thank you, internet, thank you, BITOG!

Tandkob,

To answer the question about a tunable muffler (not "turnable" as you wrote)

A tunable muffler can be adjusted to increase or decrease backpressure to obtain the best performance from the engine. This may vary depending on engine and the rpm range the engine is used at. I'm sure there are other factors too.

So now that you know what it is, would this do the same thing to mpg as your blade?

not sure. Is the turning manual? The fabric in the blade provides an elastic membrane that varies based on acceleration to maintain a relatively constant backpressure

However, the emissions reductions in my opinion is the more important. the fuel savings just means it will pay for itself at some point.

gee tosh, you are too smart for me, I answered a question asked.....Why would a company pay 2 people to continue a blog with 4 people who are more interested in finding a way to justify their beliefs than look at something objectively....thats a business model I will start following in my company. great return on investment....lmao

Hey, pal. I worked for a company that had full time flamers to choke a yahoo financial message board just so that no one could discuss the company and object to management's actions. Every holiday and weekend they didn't post.

Not that I'm saying that this is the case here. Just that that sorta thing occurs.

Believe it ....or NOT!!
