I have used these in the past and was wondering if anyone on here has cut one open to see how well they work in collecting and holding metals in the filter.
I run a Filtermag on my truck and have seen similar results shown in the link above when I cut open my filters. I would put one on my wife's car (STS) but that takes a canister type filter. Don't know if they do any good but it couldn't hurt to use them.
Just make sure you keep your fingers out of the way when you stick one on because they are very powerful!
I've had one on both cars for YEARS. I used to cut them open and they looked like the linked photos. The Sequoia one is 10 years old and starting to rust (the chrome/magnet) so I'll need to get a new one. I bought the filter cutter to make cutting open easy like a pipe cutter. Its in a box currently from house move so didn't cut open this time.
For the tranny I also installed a magnefine filter for same reason.
