Nope. I switch off and walk away. Headlights are automatic. Door locking automatic. All that other stuff takes care of itself. Embrace the convenience.
+1I always turn everything off. It's probably because of my OCD.
There’s nothing wrong with that. I have always used the parking brake on every car I have owned, even automatics. It’s easier on the parking “locking pin”. Ever park an automatic car on a hill without the parking brake on and then find that it’s a bit harder to get it out of park the next time you start it? That’s the main reason why I do itI work with a guy who sets the emergency brake every time he parks the car.... and it's an automatic.
No, cool down. Spool dpwn takes a matter of seconds, cool down takes a little longer. You know, keep some oil flowing through the bearing housing for a little bit.Spool down.
I always done this. Only the wife’s car with remote start we leave the ac or heat on for climate purposes. It’s a lease I don’t sweat it muchAs long as I can remember when I put my vehicle in park I turn all the accessories off before I shut the engine off. Thinking has always been it probably isn't the best for the AC compressor and/or the blower motor to come on hard from a dead stop. Radio too because I like to hear the start-up in case something is off. This started back when I was driving $300 junk and I just kept doing it. Don't know if it helps anything but can't hurt.
YesSpool down or cool down?
So do I and most of the world. It's a parking brake. That's why it's ratcheted to remain locked. The parking sprags in transmissions aren't all that beefy.I work with a guy who sets the emergency brake every time he parks the car.... and it's an automatic.
When we drove sticks as dailies, I never used the parking brake unless parked on a hill.Yes.
I'll try to shut off the AC a block or so from my destination to let things start to dry out. Radio off. Lights are a maybe - the Sonata doesn't have automatic headlights like the Cobalt does, but the lights will shut off when the ignition is off so during the darker months, the switch is pretty much on all the time.
And parking brake on for two reasons: 1) the previously mentioned "ease the stress on the parking pawl" reason. In fact, I'll engage the brake before I shift into park. and 2) if the brake isn't used regularly it will likely be stuck when you do need it. Plus, other than the Sonata, the rest of the fleet has manual transmissions so the brake is needed there.
The parking pawls that I have seen are all pretty small and if the linkage is a bit loose they will slip. My automatic didn't even come from the factory with a park position. Set the parking brake or it will roll. There’s nothing wrong with that. I have always used the parking brake on every car I have owned, even automatics. It’s easier on the parking “locking pin”. The ECM isn't going to let anything happen that will harm the engine. Been that way for quite a few years now.Spool down.
