Anyone else never own an oil burning vehicle?

The Ram and the Pilot don't seem to burn any. The 2013 Equinox was the only one in recent memory that burned oil, but it turns out that was a feature of the Ecotec 2.4.

Lots of drivers must feel confidant they don’t own cars that use oil because I honestly cannot recall ever seeing anyone check their oil level.

Lived in a condo for 20 years with outdoor parking and I never, not once , saw anyone check their oil except me.

Lady who parked beside me had oil all over her parking spot so I asked her if she ever checked her oil and she said no. She wasn’t even aware what it was in her parking spot.

Slow leak but it went on for over a year.

I wish I could say never, but the 3.6 in my 2015 Canyon finally broke the cycle. It doesn't burn as much as the dipstick would suggest, nevertheless, I don't like watching oil levels drop between OCIs. The pan is very narrow and deep, so when you see the oil level down by the add line, it's alarming, but 1/2 to 3/4 quart brings it back up to the full line. 5,000 mi OCI, Mobil1 and PP until the burning started, then I switched to Castrol 5W-40 in an attempt to slow it down. Oh well, it was a good run.

I never knew cylinder walls and valve stems could be lubricated without any oil going out the exhaust. 🧐

My GM 3100 did not use a significant amount between services. Tight as

Only vehicles thar ever used oil when brand new

2017 Passsat 4cyl very slight over one OLM cycle

Sadly my newest light service truck
2023 Silverado 2.7 various amount dependant on driving conditions around a quart over 6k

‘22 GMC Sierra 5.3L with 117K mi. typically uses ½-1 qt. 0W20 during 6K oil change interval. Note that I take a 1,400 mi. round-trip every 2 months to see the grandkids, driving 80-85 mph (the posted speed limit) across hot Oklahoma and Texas, stopping only for quick gas fill-ups. During those trips, I typically use an additional ½-qt. I’ve toyed with the idea of using a heavier wt. oil, or a supplement, to get the usage down, but people say not to.

I have never owned a massive oil burner (and by that I mean one that uses a quart every 1000 miles or less) but I have had a couple that used more than normal (a quart every 3k)

I worked with a guy in the 80s who had a Dodge Omni that burned a quart of oil every day and he only lived about ten minutes away from work! Instead of getting it fixed he just bought cases and cases of cheap $1 per quart oil. He would leave a massive smoke screen wherever he went. Finally after about a year of doing that he got pulled over by the police and they made him take the car off the road. 😵‍💫

I've had two that had moderate leaks and maybe burned a bit of oil. 81 Omega 2.8, and the 95 Neon, they needed about a quart every 1-2k miles so nothing terrible. The Focus needs a quart about every 3-4k miles especially if I do a lot of near 3k rpm hwy cruising.
I have had cars where I realize I haven't checked the oil at all in whole OCI but I try to have a look once in a while even if it doesn't normally use much.

Gen 1 mdx, 100k. Used a quart every 5,000 which was very good

1997 Subaru 2.2. Usage was inconsistent, but 1 qt every 3,000 was pretty normal, on mobil1 synthetic.

Jeep 4.0 with 250k on it, used a quart every 500 miles. After doing some work on it, used a quart every 1,00.

Stepdaughters mid ‘00 Suzuki vitara, over 100k, dipstick was dry every time I saw it, about once a quarter. She ran it dry a couple of times, but if it had oil in it, it was Swiss-watch smooth. That was an incredibly durable motor and transmission. She received $1k on trade, and I have several times thought it would have been better to have bought it from her. It was a great car in so many ways.

1973 VW bus. Dude. It needed half a quart every time I drove it. But it was shot, 24 mph was its effective top speed.

In 1975 I bought a brand new VW Rabbit about 1 1/2 months before gradgitating from college. It always used some oil. 2 1/2 years later it was up to about a quart every 1,000 miles of highway driving. That is my only car to use oil.

My current VW, at only 20 years old and only 342,500 miles has a leak in a high pressure fuel return line that was spraying oil all over. So, it is red tagged until a get a new hose and install it. I may want to replace more of those flexible lines. We first noticed the diesel smell yesterday evening.

My ‘00 Camry burned a quart every 2,500 miles or so. Valve guide seals.

The current ‘07 Sonata is a quart in 4k-5k or so if that counts.

65 Corvair used so much oil I had to add 1/2 qt every time I filled the gas tank and a 72 Galaxy 351 burned about a qt between 3000 mile oci. After them no oil burners since the late 70's.
