So, with the recent spate of colder weather 'round here, my pup Luna (3 1/2 year old Louisianan Catahoula/Staffordshire mix) has taken to doing something that makes me giggle. I get up around 0430 and go make coffee. Luna follows me down and wants to go out, so I let her on out. She takes about 17 seconds to do her thing and then is jumping and clawing at the door to get back in. It's COLD!! When I let her in, it is full steam past me, up the stairs, and down the hallway to our bedroom. I can hear her slam into the bedroom door without slowing down, and it hits the doorstop with a huge bang. I know she jumps back into the bed, again without slowing down, because I can then hear a string of profanity from my wife who was awaken by all this fun. I am laughing almost to the point of not breathing, but quietly. If my wife heard me laughing, well, then I'D be in the doghouse. Again.

Our 9 year old Border Collie named Tazzy has a genuine comedic streak. Even at 9yrs she still has what we call "Tazzy Time" where she goes into her soft crate and thrashes around for 30 seconds or so while making bizarre noises, yelps, and barks. She is quite a talker and at times it's as if you're having a conversation with her. I've known a lot of dogs but never one like our Tazzy

My dog is such a spazz that I can’t help but laugh at him. The other day I went out for a few hours and he got into my stuff and ate a full bottle of extra strength Tums as well as an entire package of caffeine gum! 😬 A couple of days before that he found his bottle of hemp calming pills and ate about 20 of them! Neither of those episodes even affected him in the slightest, he must have an iron stomach

The border collie I took care of for a while definitely had his own ideas about how things should go and was not embarrassed to let us know. Almost Husky like.

I wouldn't call it conversations, more like a rejection of what we wanted.

Harley, our 155 pound Great Dane.

Sue and I have had five Great Danes, four of them rescues. Our last rescue, Harley, was horribly abused. He was found wandering the streets with several broken ribs and emaciated to the point of starvation. He weighed just 60 pounds (!!!) when we got him. It took Sue and me a year to rehab him physically and mentally. If I ever got my hands on the person who did this to him.....I'd end up in prison.

Anyway, he loved sharing my pillow with me. He'd sleep under the covers all night long and we'd lay snout-to-snout for hours breathing each other's air.

Reminds of me of my parent's "Golden". Wonderful canines. I swear my parents loved Honey more than they did me.

One year my parent's took a month-long vacation. When they left Honey was ill with some sort of kidney or liver infection. Well, Honey died while they were away! For three weeks Sue and I took their daily calls and lied to them when they asked how she was doing.

Love Danes, almost took in a re-home from a local military officer who was about to get deployed overseas. Beautiful, HUGE, pup. Came with his own couch. Orders changed though and he didn't have to leave. Win and a loss for me, no doggo, but he got to stay put in a loving home.

Scott, there are special places in the afterworld for the scum that abuse animals. And another one for those of us that rescue them.

The thing about rescues is that they are forever grateful. They know you saved them.

And with respect to Great Danes, they're called the "Gentle Giants" for a reason. In order our Danes were Colby (a spunky and playful girl, our first "child", she loved parties), Megan (always quiet, regal, and lady-like), Cooper (the Robert Redford of Great Danes), Stella (our jet black alpha female home security warrior), then Harley (a sassy but loving boy with perfect Great Dane legs, an amazingly fast runner!)

My pit mix girl does the same thing. She does not like the cold at all and can do her business in the morning in fifteen seconds flat. Her sister bernedoodle loves the cold and snow. She will stay out laying in the snow for hours and even then I have to drag her back in. I’d say it’s probably something to do with the difference in their coats lol
