This could be the same scenario that happened with the CX-3 / CX-30. Eventually the CX-3 was cancelled. With the CX-50 and the CX-70 coming on line this will put pressure on the CX-5.

If true, why surround it with a bunch of secrecy and smoke/mirrors and lie about it? Mazda has said publicly that it won't replace the CX-5 but supplement it. Just stupid.

If sales number remain good, it will continue on.
It’s their best selling model by far. They don’t want to kill the goose.
In my opinion their next big hits will be the 50 and the 70, especially the hybrid power trains with gasoline prices such as they are. If I were them I wouldn’t wait much longer on the hybrid CX-50 though they might not have any choice if the supply chain is tight.

Just from what I have read, one of the biggest reasons for not buying the CX-5 was the cargo room. That is a USA viewpoint. Elsewhere in the world it’s not as big of a issue. I also think the hybrid platform necessitated a chassis update. That is their new Scaleable Architecture. All this coincides with the Toyota Hybrid power train they will be using.
If you are getting an AWD version of the Mazda 3, CX-3, CX-30, or MX-30, you are still technically getting a better semi-independent rear suspension setup.
The rear axle is still a rigidly mounted pumpkin, with independent axle shafts leading to each rear wheel.
Better mounting points to the frame to allow better suspension travel than a typical torsion beam rear suspension setup.
Like I said, this is NOT a 1980's GM rear torsion beam suspension design.
But, at the end of the day, Mazda is being influenced heavily by Toyota to cut production costs, and increase profitability.
The average American driver can't tell the difference between a Mazda with an true multi-link rear suspension setup, and this hybrid torsion beam suspension setup.
Mazda has a long history of always taking 5 years too long to bring their next great technology to market, and completely missing their window.
This won't be any different.

Mazda always gave an excellent auto for the $$$. Some of the best fit and finishes materials used ride quality handling and driving feel. I absolutely loved my 2006 Mazda 3 grand touring and 2010 Miata.
Some of the best handling cars were and are torsion beam rear. Today’s technology and materials I don’t necessarily think Mazda made a bad decision using torsion beam. Fewer parts for manufacturing less maintenance with rear alignments. Possibly more cargo room with a torsion beam chassis design. I had a scion IA with a torsion beam that car handled very well and rode nicer than my 2019 Corolla I just traded in.
I’d be interested in seeing the rotary engine generator design I heard mentioned in a hybrid. Something similar to the volt.

These joint efforts may be a thing for the future.
Ford and vw were rumored to join up with ev production. I heard this at least a yr or so ago on the stock channel I watch.

Makes me laugh as to why new Corolla hatch and Mazda2 look so similar.
I'd take the Mazda2.
Having recently been with Toyota, I would say... GIMMICKY, RUN. Mazda should be a better outcome.

Hey, leave (any Toyota/4Runner with same things and different names in each, also like Nissan SR and SV trims.. samething) alone lmao.
I thought the reason for the CX-50 was to appear more car like rather than SUV like (CX-5)...more of a car that can do some light off road stuff but still be sporty...whereas the CX-5 was more an SUV that can do some off road stuff but have some athleticism too...

Toyota brand has the reputation for repeat buyers and lessee. Toyota came out with scion to attract younger car buyers total flop. Toyota has a good vehicle it’s just a tired brand. Like all the auto makers they’re hitting a dead end. The auto market isn’t in a good place. We’re flooded with used cars the govt don’t want auto makers producing new vehicles especially gas I can go on for hours with my theories actual truth or just thoughts rattling in my head. Don’t want to get too political but that basically where all current situations have stemmed from.

Toyota has not really very many cars (any?) that I would actually want to buy, except MAYBE a BMW Z4 and even then, no... just saying.

Totally agree. Toyota tore through the BMW parts bin the Supra is a rebadged z4 for the most part. Toyota hurting so bad they are taking the approach of subscription based services like all the others just joining the bandwagon, my new rav is loaded with infotainment that requires a subscription att hotspot satellite radio mobile connect services.
It's a new trend when a company starts to suffer they start subscription services. Apple has become recently one of the biggest in the market for offering subscription based services to keep revenue coming in. Some consumers getting smarter keeping their phones longer. Just like with the auto market they are loading cars with tech for subscriptions maybe they're wondering if people will start holding onto their cars.
