I'm not a real old-school type of guy - I like my modern razors, smart phone, automatic transmissions, mp3 players, etc. I can drive a stick, and I can start a car or truck that uses a hand choke, I just don't currently have any.
That said, I'm a plumber, and a lot of plumbing is still pretty traditional. I have yarning and caulking irons, and I know how to join hub-and-spigot cast iron with oakum and lead. I can cut cast iron pipe with a hammer and chisel like they did a hundred years ago. I have pipe wrenches older than I am, including genuine Stillsons. I know how to operate a gasoline blowtorch. I've cut plenty of pipe threads by hand, although I prefer a power threader. Sometimes I think I should have been a blacksmith.
Oh, yeah, I use bar soap, too.
