Another reason why I changed it "early" is it's gonna get really cold really soon and suppose to stay that way for a while...

It's always nice to have fresh oil in when it gets well below zero.

There's a feeling there if ya know what I mean.....

I fight this urge all the time! It's so hard for me to go till my 5k OCI. I don't personally notice any real signs that I need to change it. I guess it's that oil freak in me...

You're not kidding there! I used to run Castrol GTX changing every 3000 miles, but switched to Mobil 1 (15,000 miles ago and it still drives me nuts waiting for 5000 miles to be up!

Yep - it eats at ya.

How close are you?

Come on, change it, we'll support you.....

Fight the urge all the time. Raised on doing 3K changes and now use GM's OLM. Especially if I need to top off and wonder if the change oil light will come on next week.

I kid you not, I know a guy who owns an LS1 f-body who changes his Mobil 1 every 1000 miles! He says he gets Mobil 1 for free. He recently tried Amsoil to see if his consumption was any different, and he ran it for 4000 miles and he said it was driving him insane to go so long on the oil! LOL!

I ran GC oil in my 2004 honda accord 2.4 for only 5200 miles. I remember the day when I decided to change it out. I got lost in Baltimore and ended up on a street location for the television show: "The Wire." I traveled many miles in stop and go traffic on these "benign" streets and I noticed general sluggishness in pickup from stoplite to stoplite. I changed the oil out immediately to a less viscous oil so would be prepared for a quick getaway the next time I get lost in Fort Apache.

Lotta nerve hittin' West Balto, SpiderBy! I went looking for the streets of the Bronx from the movie "Bronx Tale" a few years ago.. It's not a nice, quiet, "enforced" peaceful neighborhood anymore.

Hasn't been for many a bad moon..

I changed early this weekend at Ma's down South (heated garage). Was going to take my GC to 8500, but the weather was going to be crummy at home the rest of the month, so I changed several hundred earlier than I planned.

Quite a change, 0W30 GC to 5W20 QS TorquePower 4x4 syn. On the 2-4-1 sale, of course! Can't wait to get my UOA kit for the GC drain. I have a feeling they're gonna tell me it could easily have gone 10K..

CLASSIC!

That guys my idol, no matter how wasteful it may seem.

And, I thought my oil changing habits were fetish like.

Fresh oil is always good if you consider the cost (in time and $$$) of a new engine or rebuild.

I drive alot, in all kinds of conditions, for work, surf, and other various stuff so I can justify it in my mind.

Gonna be hard to leave the GC in my car for 6k... and if I'm to pull a sample around 4k (ish) it will most likely get drained.

Good to know I am not the only one. I just sent this thread to my girl.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I feel better.

It's weird. I want to change my oil more frequently in my new vehicle, and less frequently in my old one. Why's that?
The old one (10 yrs 154,000 miles) probably needs it worse.

I can't use synthetic because i could never make myself wait so long to change my oil to justify the price.

Changing my oil is like therapy. Sometimes i do it to make *me* feel better, not just my car

Flushing your radiator can also be just as addictive! Not to mention the turkey baster brake fluid exchange method. In addition, i also "feel better" when all my cars fluids are of the same brand.

Now if i can only figure out a cheap way to change my auto tranny fluid, then i can truly sleep well...

What you guys need to do is bug the oil companies until they can develop a super synthetic that protects better than even the best synthetic by almost no measurable margin, but expires in only 3 months or 3,000 miles. Then you can justify changing early. But watch it cost 3x as much, some of you would still buy it.

The only bad thing, to me, is the waiting soooo long between UCI's running Synthetic !!

I know I don't have a chance at making it past 4,000 miles. That's why I don't let myself spend more than $1.50 on oil. I've found it just as rewarding as changing my oil to find a case of Havoline, Pennzoil or QS for less than 2 dollars a quart. I also tell myself my 4.0L engine would rather run on sale dino for 3-4K than to run a nice synth for 5-7K.
