How sad and disgusting our nation has become when an American needs to feel safe IN YOUR OWN HOME by carrying a firearm.

What a disgrace. That really says something about our culture.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but in terms of crime statistics overall, I believe the last several years have been some of the lowest/safest in history.

Like everything, it's the media or individual perception/occurrences that skew reality.

Eleven years ago I had cancer, at the time I weighed 105 lbs. and it was unlikely I would live.

Well I did, and the Drs. told me to EAT, I did, I'm now 71 and yea overweight, but I'm alive. Yes I could sure stand to loose a few lbs., ever try that at my age.

So it's only unnatural rights that governments take away????????????

That's a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have car, life, fire, liability, health, and assault insurance. I don't fear items listed, but am prepared. I lift/cardio and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. However, I am 67 years young. Even in peak physical condition, I am no match for a young thug.

In the Navy we never planned a fair fight. Our intention was always overwhelm the objective.

So I live. There will be no fair fight should someone attempt assault of my wife, mother, or myself. In a "fear of my life" situation my POA is to do everything to escape or avoid confrontation. That fails, lethal force is the option remaining at my age. ie Assault insurance.

edit ^Steve as you carry cash for work (I'm guessing), I think that falls under a different discussion than someone who commutes to an office/etc and doesn't deal with that. There are crazy stories related to people who have to carry diamonds, etc for their jobs!

Well, sometimes, I work in a ( law ) office, and I keep a gun in my desk for good reason - criminals, some of them crazy and violent, or both. The one time I actually had to get it out, it immediately calmed the situation, well before the police arrived, which was only a matter of minutes, thankfully. Working in an office is certainly no guarantee of safety.

The only time I was a victim of a violent crime, the crime occurred on my own property. That's much harder to avoid.

Personally, I find the comments about living in fear, or living in the wild west, or should relocate, or should have been more courteous, to be completely unpersuasive and patronizing. If someone doesn't want to be armed, then by all means they shouldn't be. I assume you are in that group, which is a good thing since your legislature has basically taken away your choice in the matter.

Just to be clear, that was Trajan that said that, not me.

Right. It's not a "need", it's a "right". A "natural right".

Our "natural rights" don't come from Big Bro, period.

...and the sooner people learn that, oh, wait, some never will.

If it was a natural right, it would not need to be listed in a constitution written by people.

Trajan, the 10 Amendments were made for limitations on what Fed. Gov't can do to citizens.

Congrats on your victory! I hope all is well and you won that battle. Cancer is a word that I wish would completely disappear from existence

Gee, having studied constitutional law for decades, I didn't know that.....

That has nothing to do with your position that they are "natural" rights. They're no more natural than the divine right of kings. Which was also claimed to be a "natural" right.

The joke is that people think that rights spelled out in a document written by men are natural rights.

For centuries people though that the divine right of kings was natural too.

I have a "Permit" to carry, BUT just where in the 2nd Amendment does it say I have to have a permit to carry a gun??

Where??

So, why, as a full law-abiding citizen, do I have to get a "Permit"??

A real man knows how to avoid fighting altogether.

Not always. Here most of the homicides are drug related but innocent people get robbed a lot and injured by teenage "gangsta" types. It is a whole different world in some urban areas in America. I grew up here but plan to move South due to many issues and crime is one of them. I live in a nice above average suburb where the average price of a home is over $200k. But just a few miles away is the hood. Lately, a lot of the ghetto rats have been venturing out into nicer suburbs to see what opportunities are out there. Not a good thing.

I would guess that 50% of my neighbors have CCW permits.

I also have a cwp. Butthe 2nd Amendment has really never definitely ruled on this issue.
Municipalities and States may reasonably regulate. As time goes by we really may not want the SCOTUS to take up this Amendment

100% agree. I think a lot of poorly trained CC permit holders fail to grasp this essential concept. Carrying a firearm means you have to bend over backwards to diffuse the situation or failing that remove yourself from potentially violent situations. A concealed carry permit and a gun in your pocket does not make you a LEO and does not give you any special rights to go correct other people's behavior.

I CC on a regular basis and live in an extremely crime safe area. I train and practice regularly. If confronted by a threat from a crazy or a violent criminal that I can't back my way out of or if I am in a position where I absolutely must need to act to save others' lives, I will act decisively and very accurately and I have zero intention of making it a fair fight.

Jump in and say something. I know many folks in other countries may not be able to have a pistol or it is not available in their country..Not every place is like the USA- imagine that. Land of the free, home of the brave.
