I think the easiest thing to do, when faced with restrictions on your rights, is to delude yourself that those rights are unimportant, that they're no longer relevant or needed.
It's the mentality of sheep. "Nothing for me to fear, there aren't that many wolves, they won't eat me, let me focus on the lovely grass I'm eating and be content and secure in my illusion of safety".
Fortunately for the sheep, there are sheepdogs.
The sheep fear and mistrust them, because they have teeth, much like the wolves, and they look for the wolves. Unlike the wolves, though, the sheepdogs use their teeth to defend, not to prey on others. The sheepdogs know that the world isn't safe for sheep, but the sheepdogs are the only ones taking action to make it safer. Sheepdogs live without illusion.
This thread has turned into a two position argument: sheep vs. sheepdogs. The sheep don't like their illusions being questioned. They don't understand the need to take responsibility for one's own welfare. They are content to let others deal with the reality of life.
