I am. CB used to be real big here. The truckers on 19, local trouble makers on 14 and the old guys on 36LSB. Then cell phones got popular around 2002 and CB faded. Reciently it has picked back up and theres quite a few locals on CB at night and weekends now.

Plus it's a requirement to have a CB on off road trips if your with a group of 4x4's.

I've got a dozen or so radios that I swap into my Jeep depending on my mood. My newest is a Uniden PC78XL. I like how it looks but it's recieve is terrible and scratchy sounding.

My galaxy's are much better sounding but they cant take bumpy roads. They are a pain in the jeep, it rattles the solder joints apart.

Anybody else still have CB's in their cars??

I have one in the car whenever we go on a roadtrip. Full-size backlit undies with weather channels, and usually a lil wil antenna. Would love if physics allowed a glass-mount antenna to work well, then I'd just have permanent installs.

yup. but its nowhere near as fun as when everybody had one. now its just for trips and offroad. I have a couple of Robyn's, a Uniden SSB, Realistic SSB. Also have a 2 meter rig in the car. I used to use that daily when I was driving 50 miles each way to work.

I still have my Midland PowerMAX, and my power mic.
102" whip antenna mounted on a trailer hitch so I can easily remove & mount it.
Also a digital SWR meter, and a little box to up the output wattage..

Oh boy, the memories. My handle was Black Bart in my Black '77 dodge van, custom with a bed in the back! Only new vehicle I have ever owned. I was working at a chrysler plant, 20 years old and rollin in the dough.

Back in the 70's I drove with an owner operator for FFE (Frozen Food Express) out of the Dallas area. He owned a cab over Pete and my CB handle was sleepy pete.

Do truckers still use them on the interstates? Is it channel 19? Cell phones are nice, but they aren't as good as telling you where smokey is hiding. My handle use to be Kamikaze Kid, although now it would probably be something not as reckless.....little did I know back then but still, good times.

Back in the day, many had a base and mobils for their cars. You used to be able to talk on 4 watts. Soon you needed a 100W linear to get anywhere. Lots of fun. I used to talk to people on my base for hours at a time. Most were less than 15 miles away. Fun times.

Im still a radio head. I have CB's. I run a base station I have about 12 radios some are 4 watts some are well around there on output. My cb antenna for the base station is on a 40 foot ham radio tower, plus I live on top of a hill, so yeah i can get a little distance, but not near as far as the Ham

I picked up a "like new" refurbished CB from the Uniden website a year or so ago. It seats under the passenger seat most of the time, but I plug it in when going on long road trips. Every once in a while it comes in handy, but most of the talk is between truckers just shootin' the breeze.

Hey Chris142,

Not now, buy wow, was I into it in the mid-late 70's...

Added Crystals for extra channels to my 23 channel CB, had a "Starduster" antenna, an extra "bump", a VFO, etc...

Great memories!
