Any concerns over Bears eating you while you sleep? What about some demented person start stabbing the trailer with a sword while your sleeping?

I'm thinking of getting a trailer for camping but I think I want a metal one. Thoughts?

sounds like you shouldn't camp, it's very hard to enjoy yourself when you are stressed out about your vacation turning into a bloodbath.

My parents had one when I was young and we had a lot fun in it. They are very good for less money and they have less drag when towing.

Most bear areas do not allow them (or at least it used to be that way). As said above, if going to bear areas, don't sleep with food close to you and change your cloths after cooking food.

Ya but you could hear that. Having some clown start stabbing your tent while you sleep would be bad.

That was one thing I never worried too much about. Never heard of it happening, either.

Any record of those things actually happening?

I have a canvas pop-up and have only camped in canvas or fabric tents and I've slept well. Guess in the event of the inevitable ninja attack, I'm hosed.

The aluminum camper will be the target in a lightning strike.

I have camped and tented in bear country for the past 60 years.... lets think about the dangers.

40,000 people killed driving someplace last year, likely many of these people were traveling for pleasure.

A quick google search reveals maybe a bear death while camping once every several years.....

OK, my advice, drive careful, keep your seat belt on, use your turn signals.......

and maybe carry a can of pepper spray. Note that most bear/outdoors/backpacking experts point out that it stops a Grizzly in its tracks, most pistols... even with a lucky shot... can not stop or kill the bear until after it has eaten you...

And cook outside, never in your tent/camper in bear country. Heck, I have spent all night fighting off raccoons after cooking bacon in my tent during a rainstorm.... this was in Indiana, NOT bear country.

Finally, at 2 am I put the cast iron skillet - with bacon grease in it- outside the tent and silence quickly prevailed. Found the cast iron skillet about a block away in the morning, polished cleaner than new!!

Most, not all, but most new travel trailers that are Hard Side are no longer Alu., or metal, but a sided with a composet material. I live in the No. Indiana RV Capital of the U.S.A.

My wife and I thought about getting a pop-up camper but dang.....the used prices on them are as higher than fully self enclosed units!

We live about half way between Sardis and Enid lakes in MS so we wouldn't have to worry about bears. Bad people are another story however.

As a veteran tent camper, this post gave me my "stress relief" laugh of the day. Thank you.

Gotta remember that I live in Ca with a bunch of fruits and nuts. It's not so much the animals that worry me but the crazy people.

Reminds me of the joke about the hikers and the Grizzly bear. They see it on the trail ahead. One is momentarily frozen in terror before regaining his wits and glancing at his friend who has calmly unslung his pack and let it drop to the ground. He then asks his friend if he's lost his mind, as there's no way they can outrun the bear.

The friend smiles, and replies:

'I only need to outrun you.'
