Hello, Guys.

I am horrible at math. If anybody here can help me, I'd really appreciate it. I am trying to get a rough estimate about the miles I will be at when my OLM gets to 5%.

Changed oil at 800 miles-OLM reset to 100%. Currently at 2,686 miles-OLM at 81%. Driving conditions have been set and are not going to change.

Any help will be appreciated. thanks.

2686/.19=14137 maximum miles
The .19 comes from 1-.81
Since the maximum possible miles is 14137 and you want 5% left,
then 14137*.95= 13430 miles assuming the computer determination of percent left is linear, which I doubt.

Assuming that the OLM continues to decrease at the same rate, then there would be a bit over 10200 miles on the vehicle as was previously indicated.

9430+800=10230

Correct. I figured it the same way, but rounded the 99.26 to 99.

10726 will be 0%
10230 will be 5%

but this is assuming the miles you drove will be just like the miles you will drive (highway %, idling, ect.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the OLM on GM cars figure out oil life percentage based upon engine revolutions? How can you guys figure out mileage? Do you take into account average speed and average RPM? In a hypothetical situation, whats to stop the OP from running his engine 2000rpm while the car is park for 400 hours. At that point, the oil could pretty much be used up however, there would be no mileage change.

Yeah, this is why the estimate is so rough. The assumption is that conditions will match with the previous miles driven

Exactly. We are making an assumption, which is what the OP wanted:

These are called curves...

However, the way I see it:

IF @ 19% GONE = 1,886 miles travelled, 5 times that (i.e. @ 96% GONE) would be 9,430, leaving about 4%...

This "assumes" Remember: [censored]before(yo)u&me that it is linear, which it obviously is not.

Cheers!

p.s. Change your oil at 9K or before: 7,500 would be a normal, safer interval IMHO
