Anybody familiar with a generac generator?

Most of the schematics I have seen for these DC outs show a separate winding on the AC genrating head feeding a rectifier which then feeds a DC regulator.

Generators need to be exercised periodically, say once a month. Run it with a load to properly exercise. I have always wondered if this is really true, but RV technicians have told me so and the manual for my Generac says so (every 2 weeks IIRC).


I dunno if it's true or not. I try to run mine the first weekend of the month. I take it out to make sure it starts. It usually starts on the first pull. After a minute or so of running, I plug in and turn on a 1200W space heater and let the whole thing run for about 15 minutes.

I turn off the space heater, unplug it, and then shut down the engine.

FWIW

BTW, I keep about 10 gallons of fuel on hand as well, and while I'm exercising it I put 5 gallons of that in one of the vehicles to rotate the fuel to make sure it's fresh.

I run Redline 10w30 in my Generac generator. Air cooled engine and all I want the best. May run Amsoil PAO next as have a few bottles on stash.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. We do have a 9hp honda pressure washer at work thats got a bad pump and the guy next door rebuilds atls and starters so I can get a cheap GM alt cheap.

Hard part would be mounting the alt and getting a belt to run it.

They have a bracket at the end of the page for mounting the alt and engine and suggest that an industrial "A" style V-belt would work, providing an "OK" fit to the automotive-type V-belt pully on the alternator.
