My neighbor has been drunk every waking moment for the last two weeks now.

How is it that you can tell?
Does he stumble around in a robe or something?

My liquor consumption has dropped dramatically - not much to celebrate.

Interesting topic!

We are definitely drinking somewhat more than usual. Not having to get up early to go to work or having to get the kids out of the house for school both make for a little bit later nights and a more relaxed atmosphere in the house. We are very fortunate that this hasn't impacted our income and our local schools have a half decent system for the kids to continue learning. So I take care of my work, the kids do their schoolwork, getting plenty of exercise, and taking care of some old items on the to-do list.

Which at the end of the day is making for an extra G&T or two while preparing dinner or a drink after the kids are in bed. Mostly a beer and wine drinker but we've been having fun doing blind G&T taste tests. Tanqueray 10 is the current leader but I didn't like it so much more than New Amsterdam Stratusphere that I'd spend the extra. Gonna grab a bottle of old school Gordon's when we're running low and give that a go

Apparently the state owned liquor stores in PA have been closed for a couple of weeks and they are just now opening a few stores for curbside pickup. I can't imagine the chaos that will ensue. Check out the video for hilarity.

"I've been trying to make some phonecalls for curbside assistance and just haven't been able to get through to anybody," said Eric Kumanchik of Verona.

"You can't get it online. You can't go into the store. What are you supposed to do," said Campbell. "We gotta do something. We gotta get better. And I'm not even mad that they shut down the thing but at least give us some liquor! If we're going to die, at least let us die drunk, at least!"

His wife and my wife are close friends. He has been putting away at least a quart and a half of liquor a day for 2 weeks. He starts pouring it down as soon as he wakes up and stops when he falls asleep/passes out. I'm pretty sure he's trying to drink himself to death.

Into my 6th year of 0 alcohol, can't say I miss it much being I enjoy having things and hobbies much more. Alcohol always led to other things which always ends bad.

I am so sorry to hear this. I know this lifestyle all too well.
The problem with us alcoholics is, we tend to take a lotta innocent people with us.

Self medicating. Alcohol is the devil. At least for people like me.
Again,so sorry. This is an ugly disease.

I cannot say what I would do in his position; I am no one to judge.
If I were to lose everything, I would hope to not return to alcohol.

Sobriety is a gift.

Sorry to hear that. Knew of a guy like that after the market collapsed back in 2009. He was dead a year later. Drank himself to death. Had a company that did work on new construction, once construction stopped, his business died and he hit the bottle. He was only in his 40's.

Not drinking any more or less. I am sick of being couped up though. I never realized how much I enjoyed being able to go to a restaurant and relax with a meal and a beer or two. I can't wait until society is re-opened...

I thought you were referring to this:

A top German doctor recommends whiskey to protect against COVID-19 (he's joking...but still)
World Health Organization disagrees, but we're here for this.

Updated: In keeping with Facebook's efforts to report fake news, we have updated this article to include the doctor's full statement.

While the World Health Organization vehemently disagrees, Dr. Juergen Rissland, a lead doctor at the Institute for Virology at Saarland University Hospital in Germany, went on the record to say: Drinking whiskey can protect against COVID-19.

And that is definitely one report we can all get behind.

While appearing on "The Morning Show," Dr. Rissland was asked about whether or not drinking could kill any viruses a person may have ingested. "Yes, of course, that's true," Dr. Rissland responded. "And the higher the percentage of alcohol, the better it is. For example, if you are a whisky lover, then that certainly isn't a bad idea," he continued, while offering this bit of sage advice to pace yourself: "But of course you need to bear in mind that you can't do that every 15 minutes, that is something else to consider."

Virologist Jurgen Rissland, who says whisky protects against COVID-19 infection.

After being prodded a little further by the show's co-hosts who asked him if he was really suggesting folks drink high-proof alcohol, Dr. Rissland laughed. "I would like to say it can't hurt, but in the end, it is definitely not a panacea. For God's sake, you shouldn't get me wrong here. I just wanted to make the point that the virus is vulnerable to high-proof alcohol, because it has an outer layer made of fat, and high proof alcohol destroys the virus. And one would need to drink quite a lot to get any sort of protection from infection."

So we'll take his advice with a good sense of humor... and probably a shot of whiskey.

Prost!

He was ruined literally overnight. His restaurant's single biggest money-maker (every year for 15+ years) was March Madness...the place was PACKED every night there were games. That was cancelled...the governor ordered all restaurants to close, he is sitting on $45,000+ worth of beer he can't sell.

They aren't allowing curbside takeout in New England? Here they even allow beer and liquor sales from closed bar and restaurants as well as food...

My guess is that he had a severe drinking problem that was work related as well (occupational hazard if you do not take care), and it just is more pronounced now...

He tried take-out...gave it up after a week, he was losing money on it. He barely drank at all until his life imploded.

I don't know. Some of the places I'm going to seem to have a line now as more places closed, people have fewer choices to go to. Plus maybe people are stir crazy and want to go out now whereas they just wanted to stay in during the first few weeks.
