Any reason to spend the extra $300 for a Pixel 8pro over the Pixel 8a?

Just found out I have to leave for Asia for work in the next 24 hours. Need a new phone, my Pixel 3XL is having issues and I can't have a problem in Asia with the phone.

Amazon can deliver a Pixel 8a same day for $500, Amazon can deliver a Pixel 8 pro tomorrow morning for $800.

Any significant reason to spend the extra $300 for the pro model?

Edit- reading reviews it appears the 8pro comes with the latest version of gorilla glass, which might reduce the need for an otterbox case (Gorilla Glass Victus 2)

8 pro owner here...there was a reason i chose it over the standard 8 last year, but it escapes me...
It's Bigger, and it has a gimmicky temperature sensor on the back.....

oh! that was it... if i bought the Pro, I got a free pixel watch 2, but with the standard 8 it was free Pixel buds Pro, and I already have those...
sorry for not being much help.

Just FYI, the Pixel 9 Pro will release on August 19th, so the 8 Pro price will drop significantly in 3 weeks. With that said, I would not spend $800 on an 8 Pro that will likely retail for $500 soon.

The unlocked Pixel 8 Pro is already $559 from Mint Mobile, but I know you can't wait 2 days to get it.

With wireless charging now on the A series, it would be my choice today if I was buying.

As nukeman says there's a discount to be had if you can wait a bit. The 8 will be dropped down by a bit because of the new 9 and they can't keep the cheaper 8a the same price as it'd be closer to the 8 then so they'd have to knock that down some too. I like the smaller phones now I'm over these big tablet phones. I like the smaller 6 i have. Comfortable to hold. If i had to buy a new phone to replace my 6 it would be a discounted pixel like that 8a or 7a if very very discounted even. But honestly I'll probably keep owning this thing for another 2 more years since the battery life is better now than how it was new strangely and it still performs wonderfully even though the benchmarks made this out to be a clunker and made me doubt buying it. That's when i realized benchmarks meant very little. It's still very quick and snappy.

Yeah, in a case like that, I would go directly to your preferred carrier's store and don't leave without an activated working phone in your hand.
Yep - this. Spent a week in Europe with no phone one time because our IT guy said it would work with the SIM as is (years ago). I told him it would not. Of course he was wrong but he was the IT guy and I am just a lowly engineer so what did I know.

Anyway had its benefits. I didn't answer anyone at work. Emailed the wife using wifi. There fault, there loss.

I have had 6,7,8. I don't like the larger size of the Pro. I guess there is going to be a 9pro and a 9pro XL(prob not the correct names) coming out. Oh, and I did get Pixel Bud Pros. I actually like them a lot. I switch between those and WF-XM5's.

I had the standard 2,4,and 6... The "free" pixel watch 2 was the only reason I went with the pro this time around...and I've had every flavor of pixel buds so far. Including the corded ones( ie non-wireless)...those are still around here somewhere...

My vote would be neither. Get an 8. As others have said the 9 will be released within days so all the 8s will be on good sales soon... But your timeframe dictates...

Thanks for all the great tips gents.

Ended up finding a lightly used pixel 8pro with 512k on Craigslist for $500. I had a urgent need with a time constraint, so this appeared to match. Hopefully the phone works, I will try it out tomorrow.

That's a great price. Good luck!
