Any reason not to use Ultra for 5k

As per Honda owner’s manual, they indicate to change oil filter every other oil change. Its more of a preference, nothing bad will happen if you run two oil changes with one filter.
I don't know why.... ? maybe cause we all come from different experiences / jobs / people we learned about autos from etc...
The thought of re using a filter not once entered my mind. Not using a fresh one at each oci just never occured to me. I guess I felt that it would some way "dirty up" my new oil? I see now that is not an issue if folks been going for 2 oc or 3 on same filter. Another thing comes into play when your situation gets like us. Less than 10,000 miles per year. We averaged only about 6000 to 8000 the last few years. No matter how few miles per year I will always change oil + filter at least once in 12 months.

SURPRISE. I did not know that. Also did just find out not long ago that the six pack of Hondaparts.com OEM oil filters I just got in December were MADE IN AMERICA. Read this a couple places , Piloteers.com is the latest one that says the Honda Blue OEM filters that have "Honeywell" scribed on them someplace means "made by FRAM."
The guy who mentioned it also says:
if you'd do a search for "oil AND filter", you'll find lengthy discussions about oil filters. I think there was a mention here and there about Honda OEM filters being made by FRAM.

Once you start reading you'll find out what others are using instead of the OEM filters.
@Piloteers.com. Just found that site myself. Interesting stuff like almost every other Forum I guess.

WOW .... Amazing what kind of comments and stuff you can stumble across just looking around the net and Forums from time to time.
This was on the very first page of the Piloteers.com Forum that is apparently some Honda people. About FRAM filters which I use on and off with no trouble for years.... is there some major problem with FRAM that really exists that you guys know about or is this just chat room rumor words?

FROM : Piloteers.com - Are they full of hooey or what?

Many folks on other boards that I frequent (mainly Toyota boards because I have a Tacoma PreRunner) totally agree with the notion the Fram is the Anti-Christ. I personally use Amsoil, Purolator PureOne or Napa Gold filters. If you need to read up on why Fram sucks, head on over to www.bobistheoilguy.com and take a look, you will be amazed.

I've heard that Fram filters are made with cheap cardboard filtering material and can do more damage than good and that the anti-drainback valve is faulty. Yeah, the filters are readily available everywhere, but why not go the extra few miles and get a quality filter. Afterall, you paid over $30K US for your rig, why not treat it right? You wouldn't treat your family like that would you?

Do the ones you just got have Honeywell printed on them?
My six filter do NOT have Honeywell anyplace I can see on them. They do all have MADE IN AMERICA stamped on the sides. So looking at them there is no clue exactly where but they do have the words HONDA USA Filters so?

Do they say Make in the U.S.A. ... or, Made in America? Never seen "Made in America".

OK. They are the same filters in the article photo you posted. Tiny print. Blue filter / white lettering (tiny). This is all that is on it. Honda Genuine Parts - Honda of America MFC Inc "Made In USA"
First time I have every ordered and used OEM Honda filters. Looking at them - they appear to be very well made heavy duty filters. Much like the Mobil 1 filters I have used many times.

I was gonna say ... if they say "Made in America" they could be fakes. But sounds like they aren't.

I saw those words about fake Honda filters. These appear to be legit and a decent looking made filter. They also come with an O ring instead of a gasket like some filters have. I am satisfied they will do well. Glad I found them on the Hondaparts.com site.

Just like a lot of stories / rumors that cast doubt on some products and companies.... the further I drilled down on that Piloteers.com forum each person who asked someone about the horrible / disasters of FRAM filters, no one could state exactly where the story / proof is or they could not recall who told them this etc.....

Seems a tad overkill but it is their top tier filter. Why not spend $11for great filtering specs? (Cartridge)
Are you talkin Fram Ultra? if so, I change mine every 7k on mt 3rd gen Tacoma. Filter still looks good at 7k.

Most of my life(62years) fram has made junk filters, but these Ultra cartridge types of today are really well made.

Old stories get twisted and never die. That's how humans operate unfortunately. They would rather believe and pass on old stories instead of searching for the truth of today.

You know its funny , just like we talked about and many oils and our prefernces and qualities there was a truth stated in all of that .... not many of us knows of any engine failures in their life and among aquaintances / family or friends due to oil related issues that can point to a specific oil brand. I only can count two engine failures in my 65 years and dare not say what oil they were using. I think I know but would not put that out there. At this day and age that info is useless as those companies have been bought and sold and the oils reformulated and changed with different stocks and add packs to where the name of said oil is irrelevant today.
So I am betting the same can probably said about oil filter related failures. Of course of all products produced and soldby a host of companies + overseas some of these companies sell actual crap products that are not worth the money people pay for them. But all of these major filter companies we all talk about and use seem fine. No one has come with a story of oil filter failure destroyed engines that I noticed yet.

For most Hondas, the manual schedule is to change filters every other oil change. (That approach sometimes gets hate here)

I do it on my Hondas. Oil good for 10k-20k miles gets drained every 3k - 4.5k miles (only short trips on car 1, 1.5 turbo on car 2), filter advertised for 10k-20k miles get swapped every 6k - 9k miles. Cuz I'm too lazy to deal with unscrewing the filter every single change.

those with problems can sue me in Bob's court.

No HATE here . We ALL do what we must when and where we must. Its your vehicles - see to them as you please. (y)

I used to be a swap the filter at every service guy. Since trying out the MityVac 2 years ago, I swap the filter at every 2nd or even 3rd service.
It is simply your call. If it makes you feel better, that go ahead and swap. There is certainly no problem doing so.
Those MityVacs sure can spoil us. I find them so convienient and so much less mess and clean up. They are good for so many fluid needs in the shop and around the house too. :)

Since I went through the same painful, the future of my kid's life is resting on my filter decision, agony as OP....on Amazon for Honda filters some choices are:

Fram XG7317 $8.89, can find at stores
Wix 51(something)XP: $10.89 [made my Mann...I think?] usually can't find at stores
Purolator PBL14610(i think): $13-$15 [made by Mann], usually can find at 1 local store (out of stock)
Mobil M-110A $9.97 [made by Mann], can find at stores.

Guess what.....they probably will make zero difference.

I hit 280,000 miles in a CRV and an 180k in an Accord long before getting sucked into Bob's oil rabbit hole. And as such that CRV and Accord ate a steady, random diet of OEM filters and whatever filter Firestone, Walmart, the local Goodyear, gas station shop had.

If you live in the rust belt, your Fit's shell will rust out before the engine goes. If you live in the Sun Belt, any "premium" filter will last you until some future gov't bans the internal combustion engine as long as oil and filter changes are well within what's advertised limits.
