The GMT900 was already in production before that. I bought my GMT800 in December of 2006 & a ton of 2007 Tahoe's were on the lot.

Maybe they were already in a finical crisis back then, you never know...

GMT900 cons.....
Hard plastic door panels
Upper dash panel cracks
Front Struts, It's a Truck, Not a CUV.
Broken wiring from reduced wire gauges throughout the vehicle.
Corrugated split loom that completely disintegrates from underhood heat.

I 100% agree. Also the parts prices are way higher on the gmt900. My employer has a 2013 with only 100k (our newest truck) and it's already showing the quality difference between it and the 2005. 2 broken for handles, left rear door hinge has been worn out since 40k, tailgate feels like it's going to fall off sometimes if you let it down too fast. Rust above the the windshield and the AC has had intermittent issues.

All stuff that hasn't been an issue on the 05 with double the mileage. Not to mention the older style is just a lot more comfortable, and more convenient interior for working out of. I wouldn't call the 13 a bad truck especially if I compare it to some other brands/specific engines but it's definitely a downgrade in most ways.

I check out a few GMT800 in my area and they all badly rusted. GMT900 seems like the only way to go, or the newer Silverado.

Around here there are still lots of 99-07 that have been undercoated regularly and or have had the rockers and cab corners replaced. The majority of them are rusty however because they are 13-21 years old and most people don't undercoat. The 08+ seem to typically rust even faster though. If I had to replace my 05 I'd find another good 99-07 based on my experiences. Plus I'll have a good parts truck.
