Hi,

I am currently using Motor Craft Syn Blend 5w30 in my 2006 Hyundai Elantra GLS with 35,000 very light conservative miles and
doing 6000 mile oil changes with Wix oil filter. Is this a good plan to keep this car for 200,000 miles?? I make sure all the other preventative maintenance is always done on time also.

Thanks

Don't they spec. 5W-20 for those? 5w30 probably won't hurt anything, but the 5W-20 MC syn blend has been very highly praised here on BITOG by other users, and it is available cheap at WM. On regular dino or syn blend I would go at least whatever the mfg. recommends in miles for normal use unless you do lots of short trips.

The Motorcraft semi-syn in 5w30 or 5W-20 should be good for well past 6000 miles in your car. I wouldn't be surprised to see an OCI showing it surviving past 10,000 miles.

If Hyundai says you can use 5W-20, that might be a better choice for winter months in NJ.

Your car is about 5 years old and only 35k miles that is about 7-8k miles a year. If most of these miles are short city trips, then you should do 6 months OCI with 5W20 if it is recommended in the manual.

+1

6 months sounds perfect...That is what I do on my moms Vic...Her car has 22K miles in 6 years.

Motorcraft Synthetic Blend is cheap enough to go that route.

I agree on the 5W20...The 5W20 should be good all year round as it does just fine in Miami jungle heat.

I would not do 10K mile OCI on the Blend...I would consider 10K miles on the Motorcraft Full Synthetic [if driving was not all gridlock] but not on the Blend.

The Blend is cheap enough to dump out every 5K miles or 6 months...Just IMHO.

Whoops! I meant UOA, not OCI. Too late to edit.

You still have roughly 6 years left on the warrentee ..do not exceed 7,000 miles OCI even if the Elantra / MC SynBlend would do it ! You want to keep yourself in good standing with Hyundai should anything go wrong .
