Any Other Merle Haggard Fans?

I really wish Ben would get his act together and get out there more.
He has lots of videos out on the net,
Merle has been my favorite for 52 yrs. Saw him live 3 times.

Working Man Blues , Silver Wings, Kern River, Mama Hungry Eyes. Oh heck all of them……

Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, David Allen Coe, Charlie Daniels, George Jones, & Hank Williams JR are what country music is to me.
Pop Country is crap, There isn't a country radio station today I can listen to.

Country artist that really sticks out right now on my playlist's is Tyler Childers.
Yep. Too much "pollution" from rap, hip-hop, top-40, etc. in today's country music. A little blues influence is OK in my book, but a country song should have more notes in the melody than just those in the pentatonic scale.

I had to look up where you were from…yup…any chance you remember Pimpadelic?

Outlaw Country channel on Sirius/XM is about the only station who plays that music. I listen to it for hours.

That's the Way Love Goes.

Written by Lefty Frizzel.
Recorded by Lefty, Johnny and Merle.

Do we need a poll to tell whose is the best?
I think not.....

My favorite Merle Haggard item wasn’t a song it was a talk show moment of all things, **** Cavett maybe.
Johnny Cash was being interviewed and was asked what was his favorite moment/song. Cash replied “Folsom Prison” understandably, and Merle spoke up saying what a powerful moment that was. Show host interjected
“Merle I don’t remember you being on that card.” Merle replied,” I wasn’t. I was in the audience.”
Not much said after that.

I love Willie's line.

There's more old drunks than there are old doctors....so I guess I better have another round.

I was a college kid back in the early 80's working part time at a Sears store for about $5 and hour when I bought two tickets with my hard earned money to take my GF to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. It was quite an expense for me at the time. We arrived at the old Astrodome with great excitement to see Merle. After a delay, Merle finally made it up on the stage, with two helpers helping him walk. Merle was too drunk and/or drugged to sing, he would just say "yeah...yeah" when he couldn't remember the words. Huge disapointment for me. I felt robbed by a drunk at the time. No big deal at all but I never was a fan of his again.

I don't blame you one bit.
You do feel ripped off.

We went to see Gary Morris out on the island Dec. 13.
Wifes favorite singer... guy could sing anything....only he didn't.
Wasn't drunk, just unprepared....it was crazy.... he could have sang Christmas carols and been fine....nope.
I don't think he sang a complete song the whole show.

Needless to say, he is off our list and the Grande has not invited him back.

Merle Haggard is one of those country stars who proves if you can sing less than a single handful of music notes you can still make major dollars. He isn't alone with his " singing ability"- there are others. Probably the latest one is Scotty McCreery.
