Any opinion of Pennzoil Dex III??

Sams club has it pretty [censored] cheap (gallon), and even though I run MaxLife in my truck that sees a lot of towing, is this a good fluid? Suitable for power steering systems at the mininum for that price, but perhaps in other auto trans vehicles?

Id be more trusting of a D/M (there is no such thing as a Dex III fluid anymore, and meeting that "spec" is entirely arbitrary) from a major like pennzoil than a low-bod blender like a store brand...

I'd run it with LG red in cars that spec Dex III.

The Pennzoil ATF is better than average, but not as good as Valvoline.

Thanks for the link! I know next to nothing about ATF analysis though, could you help clue me in a little? How does this compare to the Valvoline Blue bottle or the Castrol on there? I see the Valvoline has a bit more sulfur, otherwise all additive levels seem very similar.

ATF's use mostly a sulfur/phosphorus AW package in a ratio of about 5:1 S to P. The zinc is usually a zinc ester or a small amount of ZDDP as one of the antioxidants and metal inhibitors.

Valvoline, Pennzoil and others use similar PI packages.

Only the base oil varies different between brands.

Use with confidence.

All the 10w30 & 20W-50 is long gone.

p.s. Mercon is not MerconV, DexIII ain't gonna' cut the 2013 & 2014 ATF spec's for a lot of the new cars & trucks now-a-days.
