iam currently getting ready to put a l99 engine from a 2011 camaro s s in my 1970 pontiac lemans, anyone on here have any experience on this type of engine swap?

Yeah, good luck. You're going to need all of the electronics. Ideally you would be looking at getting a wrecked parts car for the engine and drivetrain.

Plenty of LS engines have been swapped into old cars, but this one has AFM and who knows how many sensors.

Way too many electronics involved with that engine, and the price of a parts car has too many zeros behind it for that swap.

Try something easier/cheaper like a LT1

I'd so go for it. The LS engines sometimes have accessories that hang lower then the 350 chevrolet ever did, so in some cases you may have to cut into the cross member. It should be a fairly straight forward swap.

Yes, you will need an electric fuel pump, i recommend setting up a return style pump with regulator instead of the return less set up. If your using a factory ECM, you may have to use secondary O2 simulators or install the cats if you have them laying about. I'd try to mount the engine/trans combo as low and far back towards the firewall as reasonably possible for better weight distribution. I'm not sure if you care to have evap, but i recommend keeping the whole system if possible. If not reprogramming the ECM or an aftermarket ECM maybe necessary.

I don't think his dash has a bulb for a CEL... are any of those issues going to cause a limp home/ power loss situation?

Not necessarily, however the ECM is programmed to compensate for the air drawn in from the evap "AFTER" the MAF sensor. It could cause his engine to run lean, under the conditions that would normally operate the evap purge.

DOH! Sorry about the last post, i just caught myself. It will probably run rich. Either way it will throw the A/F mixture off. Some people just use an orifice and an air filter, to some what compensate for the absence of the evap system.

LS conversions are well documented in the Chevelle forum:

Conversion where a guy spent a lot of time installing a junk car LS engine in a 1971 Chevelle, and then found out the reason the engine was in a junk yard
